TMPC launches digital platform to enhance service

The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) has introduced a new digital platform, aligning with the country’s drive toward digitisation and enhancing service delivery.

The website, launched in Accra last Thursday, aims to streamline interactions and transactions with the Council, marking a significant step in modernising its operations.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Director at the Ministry of Health, Adelaide Ntim, Freda Asare Adjei highlighted that the payment system seeks to leverage technology to simplify existing processes and reduce the challenges in service delivery.

She remarked that the ongoing digital transformation in the country has improved financial inclusion, access to public services, health outcomes, food security, education and other sectors.

She noted that many public institutions are exploring ways to improve their services through digital adoption.

“The key question is whether these public sector organisations can use digitisation to effectively transform their processes.

“However, several barriers still exist, hindering the deployment of these systems across the public sector,” she added.

She explained that factors such as societal norms, cultural practices and regulations often limit the successful implementation of information systems in the public sector.

Mrs. Adjei also noted that the Ministry of Health has introduced several digital platforms aimed at reducing bureaucratic processes and minimising in-person interactions in public service.

“Over the years, the Ministry has deployed policies and strategies to support technology use within the sector. Training programs on information systems adoption have also been organised to ensure that the Ministry’s staff understand the importance and advantages of leveraging technology to streamline processes,” she said.

Numo BlafoAkotiaOmaetu III, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the TMPC, outlined the Council’s goal to reduce direct contact between staff and clients.

“We want to eliminate cases where people claim they have paid fees but don’t receive their licenses. This app will help prevent those situations and ideally remove them altogether,” he stated in an interview.

Numo Blafo also commended the new TMPC Registrar, who has been instrumental in driving the Council’s digitalisation efforts, expressing confidence in the Registrar’s vision and dedication to advancing the council’s objectives.

He further noted that as the platform directs more revenue to the Council, it will positively impact staff welfare, especially through enhanced allowances.

He cautioned, however, against funds bypassing the Council due to manual processes, as this could have adverse effects on staff welfare.

This digital platform is expected to improve TMPC’s efficiency, ensuring secure, transparent and convenient transactions for all stakeholders.
