“To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”– Jude 1:25
INTRODUCTION
Beloved in the Lord, we are still studying the attributes of God. This week, we will discuss the wisdom of God. We hope it will impact on you positively. Please enjoy and pass it on to others!
Definition:
Wisdom defined by Merriam Webster: “wise” as being “marked by deep understanding, keen discernment, and a capacity for sound judgment.”
All the words used in the definition have strong and deep- rooted attribute of the Most- High God, as opposed to the wisdom of this world. “We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory – 1 Corinthians 2:6-8.
We should not be deceived into thinking that all wisdom come from God. It is good for us to go to the Scriptures, that is God’s Word to search for God’s standard. God’s standard has the absolute truth, we can look there with confidence to the Lord to find the standard of wisdom we are to seek after.
The book of James 3:17 says, “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
God is the definition of wisdom in and of Himself alone. No man on earth has ever perfectly exemplified a single trait of that which makes up wisdom, let alone the combination of them all.
Only God has the infinite knowledge, perfect discernment, righteous, and holy desires and means to determine what is objectively wise. God’s wisdom is that attribute of God whereby He produces the best possible results with the best possible means.
God Is Wise – He Is Full of Perfect, Unchanging Wisdom
Godly Wisdom is the power to see, and the inclination to choose, the best and highest goal, together with the surest means of attaining it. Wisdom is, in fact, the practical side of moral goodness. As such, it is found in its fullness only in God. He alone is naturally, entirely and invariable wise.
In Proverbs 16:16 we read, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!” The Bible urges us often to seek wisdom above all things (e.g., Proverbs 4:7 – Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.).
But there are different kinds of wisdom. 1 Corinthians 3:19 says, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.” And verse 20 says, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”
Difference between godly wisdom and worldly wisdom (James 3:13–17).
Apostle Paul was right when he wrote “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” – Romans 11:33.
Godly wisdom is, of course, from God and honours God. Godly wisdom starts with the fear of God and results in a holy life. Worldly wisdom, on the other hand, is not concerned with honoring God but with pleasing oneself.
With worldly wisdom, we may become educated, hold positions, and have “common sense” that enables us to play the world’s game successfully. Godly wisdom enables us to prepare ourselves for eternity. With godly wisdom, we trade earthly values for Biblical values (1 John 2:15–16).
We recognize transient existence here and live our lives as a citizens of another kingdom, and we make choices that reflect that allegiance (Philippians 1:27; 3:20). Having godly wisdom means we strive to see life from God’s perspective and act accordingly.
God’s knowledge and wisdom relate to us as individuals
The all-knowing, all-wise God purchased our freedom. He has in addition showered us with His generous and unreserved kindness, His wisdom, and understanding.
This is one of the most amazing things to know about our all-knowing and all-wise God: that He desires to share His knowledge and wisdom with us:God’s wisdom is pure, loving, and good and He desires to give us everything we need for an abundant life.
All-knowing means that He knew when you would be born and knows the day of your death, knows every time a hair falls off your head, He knows every thought you think, every word you will speak, every decision you will make.
Wisdom is more than just head knowledge and intelligence. A truly wise person is someone who understands all the facts and makes the best decisions. A wise person uses his heart, soul and mind together with skill and competence. But even the wisest man on earth makes mistakes at times but God never errs.
Indeed, when we see wisdom like this, we realize just how much our limited, finite wisdom compares with the limitless, infinite wisdom of God is fruitless. We need to seek wisdom from the creator, as the heavens are far apart from the earth, so is the depth of God’s wisdom far higher than man.
This we find comforting and wonderful. The plan we could make for our lives could not be better than the plan he has already crafted and is carrying out for us. We might not understand His ways today, but we can trust that because God is infinitely wise, He truly is working all things out in the best possible way.
When we behold just a piece of God’s wisdom, we should shout for joy like Daniel:”Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His:”– Daniel 2:20.
The Apostle Paul saw the wisdom of God as unfathomable.”O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”-Romans 11:33.
How do you see God’s wisdom?
