The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP Richard Appiah, has called on mobile money operators in the country to take personal safety more seriously since some vendors inadvertently attract criminals through unsafe practices.

“Some vendors still count money in public and operate in unprotected spaces. We advise them to secure their booths, install surveillance systems, and maintain emergency contact with local police units,” ACP Appiah stated.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by MNT in Koforidua recently, he encouraged vendors to form alliances and remain vigilant in order to create a safer operating environment for themselves and their customers.

Meanwhile MTN Ghana, the country’s leading telecommunications provider, has announced an investment of $245 million in 2025 aimed at enhancing quality service delivery across the nation.

The announcement was made during the company’s Eastern Regional Stakeholders Meeting. The meeting brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including news editors, journalists, police officials, representatives from the New Juaben North and South Municipal Assemblies, staff of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other key actors.

The engagement formed part of MTN’s annual media and stakeholder forum, which provides a platform for consultation, feedback, and discussions on service-related challenges affecting customers.

Speaking to the media after the session, Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, revealed that the substantial investment forms part of a strategic plan to expand network infrastructure, improve digital services, and enhance customer experience across all regions.

“This investment is a demonstration of our commitment to providing world-class telecommunication services to our customers. We are not only expanding coverage, but also implementing new technologies to boost efficiency and reliability,” Mrs. Fiagbenu said.

She highlighted that the company had also channelled resources into health, education, and community development projects, underscoring MTN Ghana’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.

As part of the engagement, Mrs. Fiagbenu also urged road contractors to consult MTN before commencing road works to prevent accidental damage to underground cables that may disrupt services.

The forum addressed several concerns from stakeholders, including network reliability, internet speed, and the rise in mobile money (MoMo) fraud and security threats against vendors.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben North, Samuel Adongo, commended MTN Ghana for organizing the forum and keeping stakeholders informed of ongoing developments.

“This platform has been very useful in providing insights into MTN’s operations and future plans. It has also created space for media practitioners and community leaders to offer practical suggestions for better service delivery,” Adongo remarked.

MTN Ghana assured all present that it remained committed to transparency, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement of its services. The company encouraged customers to be vigilant in safeguarding their MoMo accounts and to utilize official channels for complaints or inquiries.

With its renewed investment and active engagement strategy, MTN Ghana hopes to strengthen its role as a digital transformation leader in the country.
