The second edition of the National Stem competition, Stemnnovation, recently took place at the University of Ghana Cedi Hall on 14th and 15th November, 2023. The event, organised by the Education Ministry under the auspices of the Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum (MP), aimed at promoting innovation, critical thinking and excellence among Senior High School students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The competition provided a platform for participating schools to showcase their incredible innovations.
Among the impressive display were robotic cars and various other cutting-edge equipment demonstrating the students’ dedication to pushing the boundaries of STEM education in Ghana.
Dr Yaw Adutwum, the Minister for Education voiced his admiration for the students’ work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making STEM the gateway to Ghanaian education. Acknowledging the crucial role STEM plays in societal progress and economic development, the Minister emphasised the need to nurture and support students’ involvement in these fields.
By focusing on fostering innovation, critical thinking and excellence, the National STEM Competition seeks to inspire young minds to pursue STEM careers and contribute to nation-building.
Such initiatives are vital for encouraging the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technologists who will drive Ghana’s future progress and competitiveness on a global scale.
The competition provided an excellent opportunity for students to not only showcase their innovations, but also engage with their peers, exchange knowledge and develop invaluable problem-solving skills.
Participants undoubtedly left the event feeling inspired and motivated to continue exploring the frontiers of STEM education.
