The Ghana Black Stars are in a battle of their lives today as they face Uruguay in their final Group H showdown of the Mundial at the Al Janoub stadium today.
Due to the importance of the duel, connoisseurs of the game have christened the clash as the match of destiny as Ghana seeks tosecure a sweet revenge against Uruguay.
However, what is at stake is more than the mere revenge over the twelve year old painful experience the whole of Africa suffered at the hands of Uruguay courtesy Luis Suárez in 2010.
This is simply because whatever the outcome, it could either propel one side to the next stage of the competition or adversely clash a side’shope of playing at the round of 16.
For instance, a win for the Stars would automatically send Ghana to the round of 16 irrespective of what the outcome of the game involving Portugal and South Korea.
On the other hand, in an unlikely event that Ghana loses and Portugal wins, Uruguay would sail through to the round of 16 and inflict more pains in the heart of Africa.
Equally, a win for Korea and a draw for Ghana will call for more mathematical calculations and permutations which would not be in the interest of Ghana.
Nevertheless, Ghana’s gallant Stars fortunately, have their destinies in their own hands going into today’s clash against Luis Suárez and his teammates.
As a matter of fact, unlike Tunisia whose destiny was in the hands of Denmark on Wednesday, our collective quest to qualify for the round 16th stage to face Brazil, depends solely on a triumph over Uruguay today.
This is why the paper deems today’s game as a must win for the Stars at all costs and the finest opportunity to send Luis Suárez packing home.
Undoubtedly, this hope, might be the wish of the whole of Africa following the unthinkable ordeal that Suárez subjected the entire continent through in 2010.
The striker singularly cheated and broke the hearts of Africa when he criminally cleared a goal bound ball with his hand which eventually prevented Ghana from playing at the semis.
Unfortunately, Ghana’s hope to make amendsat the next edition in Brazil in 2014, went souras the Stars could not even qualify from their group to progress to the next stage.
It, is therefore, the wish of every Ghanaian that the Stars must handsomely annihilate Uruguay to revenge the painful ordeal that Luis Suárez took the whole of Africa through in 2010.
It has been twelve years since Suárez denied Ghana the opportunity to write her name in the Guinness book of records by being the first African country to reach the semi-finals.
Despite the years, the memory of that barbaric incident where Suárez intentionally cleared a goal bound ball from the posts with his hand, still inflicts pains in the hearts of Africa.  Â
For a period of twelve years, Ghana’s round 8 stage meeting with Uruguay in 2010 has since remained the only clash between the two countries.
It, is therefore, the paper’s view that therecould not have been any better opportunity for Ghana to revenge the aforementioned ordeal than this one especially as a win for the Stars would automatically send Uruguay home.
With our destiny to progress resting on our shoulders and also firmly grounded in our hands, the gallant Stars must not leave any stone unturned in today’s duel.
Suárez who has been biting other players during matches due to frustrations, must be made to get more frustrated in today’s game and showcase more of his instincts.
- Ghana and the whole of Africa want to see the Black Stars urge out Luis Suárez and his country to record a sweet revenge. Suárez must definitely drop a tear today.
