Award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso is set to make her debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025 with her first Nollywood film, ‘Stitches’.
The film, produced by Chris Odeh under BRS Studios, has been officially selected for the prestigious festival.
Frimpong-Manso described the project as one that deeply moved her. “I spent over a month in Lagos working on my first Nollywood film, and the experience was unforgettable. The story offered me refuge on my hardest days: a world of love, loss, family, and judgment that felt achingly familiar yet refreshingly new,” she said.
Reacting to the TIFF selection, the director expressed gratitude to BRS Studios for entrusting her with the work. She added that she looks forward to more challenging projects and collaborations on the global stage.
Frimpong-Manso is one of Africa’s most celebrated filmmakers. She is the founder of Sparrow Productions and Sparrow Pictures and has written, directed and produced several acclaimed films and television series including Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale, Potato Potahto, Checkmate and Contract, which won Best Movie at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Her works are noted for strong storytelling, high production quality and the portrayal of contemporary African life.
Her selection for TIFF marks another significant milestone in her career and highlights the growing presence of African cinema on the international stage.
