Mr. Dominic Gyasi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sefwi Wiawso, has highlighted key developmental projects undertaken within his first six months in office, announcing that 43 communities have been connected to the national electricity grid.
Speaking at his maiden press briefing on the theme: “Transparency and Accountability in Local Governance”, Mr. Gyasi said the initiative forms part of President John Mahama’s “resetting agenda,” which seeks to deepen citizen participation and accountability in governance.
He said the Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Wiawso and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), extended power to the beneficiary communities and installed streetlights in Asaman, Asawinso, Kokokrom and St. Joseph SHS, a move he noted would help curb night crimes.
On education, he announced the distribution of 85 mono desks, 85 dual desks, six desktop computers and free textbooks to basic schools.
In addition 71,413 sanitary pads were supplied to Basic Schools and 38,119 to Senior High Schools, while 13 brilliant students benefited from the government’s scholarship programme for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Mr. Gyasi further mentioned the construction of a three-unit classroom block each at Penakrom Nyamebekye and Pewodie, completion of a six-unit block with office and toilet at Aboduam and plans for new educational and health facilities, including a two-storey hostel for the Asafo Community Health Nursing Training School and a maternity ward for the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital.
Upcoming projects, he said, include renovation of the Sefwi Wiawso roundabout, installation of traffic lights, conversion of the Dwenase weekly market into a daily one and establishment of a 24-hour economy market at Sefwi Asawinso.
