Paul Nelson, a security guard employed at Holy Believe Company, was sentenced to 48 months in prison by the Accra Circuit Court yesterday. Nelson received the sentence after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy and theft.
The court, led by Judge Isaac Addo, delivered the verdict following Nelson’s admission of guilt.
Nelson was found guilty of conspiring with two others, who remain at large, to steal from a warehouse owned by businesswoman Mercy Toffour. The theft occurred on August 9, 2024 at Graphic Road in the Greater Accra Region.
Prosecutors detailed that Nelson, along with his accomplishments, planned and executed the theft of several sacks of bathroom sandals from Toffour’s warehouse. The warehouse, located above the building where Nelson worked as a night security guard, was broken into and a door was damaged during the crime. Nelson was accused of helping to load the stolen items into a mini Kia truck.
Following the theft, Toffour’s younger brother, Nana Opoku, discovered Nelson with 54 sacks of the stolen goods. Opoku immediately notified the authorities, leading to Nelson’s arrest.
While Nelson confessed to his role in the crime and named his accomplishments, he was unable to provide their locations or the whereabouts of the remaining stolen items. The search for the remaining suspects and the stolen goods continues.
The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement seeks to apprehend the other suspects and recover the stolen property.
