The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has said that the arrears owed caterers under the Ghana School Feeding programme have been paid.
According to the minister, the payment covered the arrears owed to caterers for the third term of the 2022 academic year and the first term of this year.
He made the announcement on the floor of Parliament on Monday, July 31, 2023, when he was presenting a review of the 2023 budget but did not mention the amounts involved.
“We have also settled all arrears owed to caterers under the [school feeding] programme for the period of the third term of the 2022 academic year and the first term of the 2023 academic year,” he announced.
The minister also said that, under the Ghana School Feeding programme, coverage has increased considerably from 1.6 million in 2016 to 3.8 million beneficiaries in 2023.
He remarked that the feeding grant cost per meal per child per day increased from GHâ‚¡1 to GHâ‚¡1.20p for the 2023 academic year.
According to the government, under its social intervention programmes, also increased the monthly grants to the beneficiary households under the LEAP programme, from GHâ‚¡32 to GHâ‚¡64 for one-member households and GHâ‚¡38 to GHâ‚¡76, for two-member households.
