The Rivers State Government has denied the allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it sponsored protesters to vandalise a billboard at the state office of the party in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information Joe Johnson told Channels Television in a telephone interview that the allegation that was made during a press briefing by the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers State Tony Okocha on Tuesday is baseless.
He said the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led government is too occupied with the management of the state to consider such an act.
The commissioner said Governor Fubara demonstrated good leadership by addressing the protesters on the first day of the demonstration which further reduced the perceived tension in the state.
He described the Tony Okocha-led APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers State as factional and a one-man-show, accusing it of having inordinate ambitions.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information said Tony Okocha and his supporters are frustrated because the intention of some persons whom he refused to mention names to use mercenaries to disrupt the peace of the state failed.
Johnson explained that destructive tendencies are not in their bloodline or the character of Governor Fubara.
He said the state knows those who have destructive tendencies in their gene, adding that the allegation by the APC is the last kick of a dying horse.
