The Ashanti Regional Director of Rent Control Department (RCD), Mr Douglas Mackenzie Kpodo, has commended the Rent Control Department for its digital platform, which seeks to address the loopholes in Ghana’s traditional rental service system.
The Rent Control Digital platform was launched in September in Accra by the Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, to improve rent control.
The new tool, available at https://rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh aims to make rental services more accessible to Ghanaians and improve transparency and efficiency in rental operations.
Mr. Kpodo, who made the commendation during an interview with The Chronicle, said the platform rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh would allow both landlords and tenants to handle crucial tasks such as registering properties, filing complaints and resolving disputes online, without visiting the Rent Control Offices in person.
According to him, one of the key features of the platform is its ability to facilitate the digital signing to tenancy agreement, streamlining rental process and eliminating the need for physical paperwork, which would not only save time, but also ensure more secure transparent record–keeping.
The Rent Control Director also pointed out that the platform would advertise available rental properties online, making it easier for tenants to find accommodation without intermediaries, such as agents.
“This digital transformation is about more than convenience, it is about leveling the playing field for all Ghanaians regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic status to ensure that everyone has equal access to fair and efficient rental services”, Director Kpodo stated.
He said the objective is to reduce the need for in-person visit and make the system more accessible, particularly for people living in remote areas.
“Our department has always been committed to ensuring peaceful coexistence between landlords and tenants and this tool will help us do that more effectively. We can now reach Ghanaians no matter where they are without them having to travel long distances to access our services”, Rev. Kpodo noted.
