The Chief and people of Amamamo at Elubo in the Jomoro Municipal can now heave a sigh of relief following the reconstruction of a bridge linking the community to Elubo town.
The only footbridge has been in a dilapidated state and was not only a worry to the Chief and people of the area, but also posed a danger to the community. Most particularly, when it rained the bridge became more dangerous for the residents, especially pregnant women, who used it.
But now, the hitherto wooden bridge has been reconstructed with metal, thanks to the benevolence of the Member of Parliament (MP) of Jomoro, Dorcas Afo-Toffey.
At the commissioning of the bridge, the Chief of Elubo, Nana Kesse Panyin III, explained that the bridge had been their headache before the Jomoro MP intervenes to reconstruct it.
He said ‘some people’ with the intent to help save the bridge from further destruction put a coconut tree as a temporary measure to aid in using it, however, that did not last, given that the rains washed it away.
Nana Panyin III expressed shocked at the work done by the MP in reconstructing the bridge to save residents of the community.
“All along, I thought it was going to be minor work as the MP’s predecessor did, but what the MP Toffey has done is to reconstruct the bridge from scratch.”
The Chief, on behalf of his elders and the community, paid glowing tribute to the Legislator for remembering them and responding to their cries.
Dorcas Affo-Toffey reiterated that her core mandate was to provide better living conditions for her constituents.
She said when she commenced the project people thought she would not be able to complete it, given the load of work.
Madam Affo-Toffey said: “It was a bridge that almost everyone in the area commutes on, and so it was their headache to have it reconstructed.”
She expressed the hope to do more for the constituents, but conceded however that her court case had drain her financially, but that notwithstanding, she would do her best for the constituency as their Legislator.
