REGSEC demolishes illegal structures in Dodowa Forest

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Titus Glover, has spearheaded a significant effort by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to address encroachment and restore the Dodowa Forest.

On Friday, August 9, 2024 unauthorised structures within the forest were demolished, in response to concerns raised by the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

The forest has seen a reduction in its vegetation due to illegal developments, prompting the need for action.

A bulldozer was employed to dismantle fences and other structures encroaching on the forest area.

Following the demolition over 1,000 mahogany and acacia trees were planted to aid in the forest’s reclamation and restoration.

Mr. Titus Glover, Minister for the Greater Accra Region, who actively participated in the reforestation effort, emphasised the importance of preserving the Dodowa Forest and protecting the region’s environmental and cultural heritage.

In a press briefing, the Greater Accra Regional Minister explained that the demolition was part of a broader strategy to safeguard the forest and set a precedent for protecting other vulnerable areas in the region.

He urged the public to support the ongoing conservation efforts and stated the need for continued vigilance to prevent further encroachment.

He also addressed the Sakumono Ramsar site issue, where he pledged to remove any structures within the buffer zone in the next two weeks.
