Public cautioned on prevention, early treatment of kidney disorders

The Ghana Kidney Association, responsible for promotion of kidney health education on prevention and treatment of kidney disorders in Ghana, has advised kidney patients and the general public to always protect their kidneys for a healthier life.

In a statement dated October 3, 2023, and issued in Kumasi, the Association implored the public to adhere to treatment of risk factors including Hypertension, Diabetic mellitus and avoid abuse of pain killers and herbs.

The statement signed by the association’s President, Prof. Sampson Antwi urged all kidney patients to report early for diagnosis.

The consultant paediatric nephrologist said the current issues regarding dialysis had come to the notice of the association, hence the intervention.

Prof. Antwi, who is also the Head of Child Health Directorate of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), noted that timely reports to the hospitals will help slow down the progression of the disease.

He assured that the Association is taking steps to engage stakeholders to make dialysis accessible and affordable to the general population and that the outcome would be made known to the public.
