A former Black Star and Accra Hearts of Oaks player, Prince Tagoe, has made a new payment of GH¢71,000.00 of US$40,000.00, owed George Antwi Boateng, also a former footballer.
Prince Tagoe has so far paid GH¢20,000.00, GH¢70,000.00 and currently GH¢71,000.00 totalling GH¢161,000.00.
The new payment was made yesterday at the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright.
Prince Tagoe is standing trial for defrauding George Antwi Boateng by false pretences, but he pleaded not guilty and has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.00, with one of the surety to be justified with landed property.
The case was first heard at the court on January 6, 2023.
Detective Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa told the court that Antwi Boateng is a former Ghanaian footballer based in Germany, and Tagoe also once lived in Germany.
Tagoe was once managed by the complainant, Boateng, in Germany.
She said in 2020, they met in Ghana and during conversation the complainant told the accused that he needed a 4X4 Lexus vehicle to buy.
D/C Inspector Asantewaa added that the accused allegedly agreed to import the vehicle for the complainant at a cost of US$40.000.00, equivalent to GH¢265,200.
The complainant paid the said money on January 8, 2021, into Prince Tagoe’s bank account, and he acknowledged receipt through a phone call.
It was said the accused promised to deliver the vehicle to the complainant on March 30, 2021, but failed to do so.
The prosecution said Tagoe then called the complainant and pleaded with him for an additional two weeks to produce the vehicle, and the complainant agreed.
The court heard that the two weeks expired and the accused person still could not import the vehicle as promised.
The prosecution said the complainant came to Ghana on April 27, 2021, to receive his vehicle, but was disappointed.
His Honour Acquah was informed the court that the accused stated that he could not import the vehicle and had allegedly used the money to solve his personal issues.
