President Mahama Reshapes National Security & Regional Governance

President John Dramani Mahama has initiated significant reforms to the national security structure and regional governance of Ghana through strategic appointments announced on January 14 and 15, 2025.

These decisions reflect his administration’s commitment to ensuring robust national security and effective governance at all levels.

The President appointed Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Chief of Staff and Minister for Interior as National Security Adviser.

Mr. Bani’s extensive experience in governance and security makes him a pivotal figure in shaping Ghana’s security policies.

Additionally, DCOP Abdul-Osman Razak will serve as the National Security Coordinator, tasked with unifying the country’s security strategies.

COP Nathan Rull Boakye (Rtd.) has been appointed Director of Operations at the Presidency, responsible for enhancing operational security efficiency.

Charles Kipo has been named Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), marking a critical step in modernising the intelligence sector to address contemporary challenges.

Recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports

In a related development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated the recall of all diplomatic and service passports issued under the previous administration.

The exercise aims to ensure proper usage and adherence to international standards, safeguarding the country’s reputation.

Passport holders are required to return their documents for verification by January 24, 2025.

Regional Ministerial Nominations

President Mahama has submitted the names of 10 nominees for regional ministerial positions to Parliament for approval.

These individuals bring diverse expertise and are expected to drive development and good governance in their respective regions.

They are Ali Adolf John has been assigned to the Northern region; James Gunu, Volta region; John Kwadwo Gyepong, Oti region; Rita Akosua Adjei Akwatey, Eastern region and Ibrahim Tia, North-East region.

The others are; Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti region;Akamugi Donatus Atanga, Upper Eastregiom; Charity Gardiner, Ahafo region; Salisu Be-Awaibe, Savannah region and Linda Ocloo (MP), Greater Accra.

The appointment releases were signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Ag. Spokesperson to the President, while the withdrawal of the diplomaticand service passports was assigned by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President.
