President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the late former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The mourning period, which spans from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26, 2025, is to commemorate the life and legacy of the distinguished stateswoman who devoted her life to public service, women’s empowerment, and social development.

A statement from the Jubilee House announced that during the period of mourning, all national flags will fly at half-mast across public buildings, government installations, and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad. Flying the national flag at half-mast, the statement explained, is a mark of solemn respect and a national symbol of grief in honour of the late former First Lady’s remarkable contributions to the country.

“This is in honour of her memory and in recognition of her distinguished service to our nation. Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings served Ghana with dedication and commitment, particularly in women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development,” the statement read.

President Mahama, on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, extended deep condolences to the bereaved family, especially her children, and all who mourn her loss.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement — a pioneering initiative that championed women’s rights, economic inclusion, and grassroots development in Ghana and beyond.

The late former First Lady is being fondly remembered for her fearless advocacy, leadership, and unwavering commitment to gender equality and national progress.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
