There is no end in sight that the poor infrastructural challenges currently facing Takoradi in the area of poor road networks would soon be over. Interestingly, the more the rain sets in, the more the poor roads and drainages are exposed.
A clear example is the Takoradi-Kwesimintsim dual carriageway, where a recent downpour has exposed its sorry state.
A portion of the road, in the direction from Kwesimintsim to Takoradi, has developed a pothole making it difficult for drivers to navigate that area. The indication is that, the city authorities would attend to it by only dressing it with chippings, which has not been done.
Worried over the development, Kwesimintsim taxi drivers have decided to resort to filing the pothole with all kinds of materials.
That makes driving on the portion a bit slower, but motorable with its accompanying traffic build up.
However, a recent downpour has exposed how bad and dangerous the pothole was fixed by the worried taxi drivers. It has now cut even deep after the downpour making the portion now a death trap.
Last Friday, a haulage truck got stuck in the pothole obstructing the flow of traffic from Kwesimintsim to Takoradi.
Drivers from that direction now have resorted to using the other single lane from the opposite direction after the truck got stuck in the pothole.
The towing of the truck appears to have culminated in compounding the deep nature of the pothole. This reporter has observed that a truck loaded with sand and chippings has been left there, apparently to be used to fix that portion. But three days after, there is no sight of those who would work there.
This has led to Takoradi experiencing one of the worst traffic jams given that the portion blocked is where vehicles mostly use.
