Police are investigating an alleged suicide bya personnel on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Kwabenya New Police Barracks.
Information available to The Chronicle reveals that Number 54237 L/Cpl Francis Adusei occupied Block 3 Room 10B of the Barracks. Around mid-morning of that day, a gunshot emanated from the direction of his room.
Alarmed, the neighbours reached out to the station, resulting in the summoning of an armed patrol team to the place.
When his door was forced open, the body of the Lance Corporal was found lying in a pool of blood.
Preliminary investigation suggests that L/Cpl Adusei might have used the service AK 47 Assault Rifle to commit suicide.
The paper’s investigation further reveals that deceased was originally stationed at the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) headquartered at the former Mobile Force base near the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
He was on secondment for Bodyguard duties, but after some time, he complained of pains in the chest. The authorities initially attributed the development to his continuous stay in air-conditioned environment.
He was subsequently replaced with another personnel.When it persisted, he was sent to the Police Hospital and he later applied for a transfer.
It was considered that since the RDF is action oriented Unit, it would be prudent for him to be transferred to a less militant place for him to recuperate.
Since he already occupied a room at the Workshop Barracks, the lot fell on the Workshop as a Unit and also to have close proximity to the hospital for his treatment.
