Police Swoop On Cyber Fraudsters … 12 arrested for using fake accounts of MPs, Ministers to defraud unsuspecting victims

The police have swooped on 12 suspects for their alleged involvement in the cyber-related crimes, including impersonation of Members of Parliament and other high government officials within the social media space.

They are; Gideon Kove, alias Billions, Felicia Nanewortor, Carl Kristal, Safari Zatey, Eric Acquah, alias Cent Mona, Richard Agbadzi, Isaac Dortsue, alias Barajah, Samuel Gadre, Moses Otchie, alias Razak, Yonnah Boso, Sterling Kwame Doe and Wisdom Tornyie

A source at the police headquarters told The Chronicle that these suspects usually hack into social media accounts of the MPs, Ministers and government institutions and corporate bodies and use these accounts to defraud unsuspecting victims of various sums of money by promising them jobs, scholarships, publication of fake promotional advertisements and sale of products among others.

The Chronicle was further told that as a result of the intelligence led operation, nine hundred and seventy-three fake social media accounts created by the suspects in the names of these prominent persons have been pulled down.

The Police have also recovered thirty-two (32) mobile phones, three (3) laptops and fifty-four (54) SIM cards used by the suspects to commit their crimes.

According to the source, the operation to clamp down on cyber-related crimes is still ongoing and that anyone who has fallen victim to any of the above-mentioned crimes should contact 0249850601 for further Police action. This is dedicated solely for this exercise.

Of all the fake accounts created by the suspects, Seven hundred and Eighty-Five (785) stand  in the names of MPs, sixty-two (62) in the names of security officials, one hundred and thirty-six (136) for Ministers of State, Ambassadors and some heads of institutions.
