The Ghana Police Service has organised an Open Day for School pupils to experience what law enforcement is all at about, as part of their Snatch Them Young (STY) campaign.
The Inspector General of Police and Police Management Board (POMAB) had personal interaction with the pupils, selected from two schools – New Gbawe Cluster of Schools and Joy Hills School.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Habiba Y.K. Twumasi Sarpong, Director-General of welfare, charged the pupils to see the police at all material times as their friends.
She said this young generation have no reason to be afraid whenever they see police men and woman, adding that the burden of running from the police is for criminals and not ordinary citizens going about their normal duties.
COP Mrs. Twumasi Sarpong advised the pupils to approach the police whenever they are in need of any assistance.
“We want you to feel, see and know what we do and have a relationship with us… If you see the police you have seen your friend,” she said.
The pupils were guided on a tour of how the police operate, recruitments, vehicles, motorbikes, reconstruction of a crime scene, horses, dogs and ranks within the Service.
Demonstrating crime investigation, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers educated the pupils on the types of crime scene, indoors and outdoors.
Crime can happen at home, school, workplace, in the air, on land and at sea, but the pupils were advised against going close to crime, as it may destroy pieces of evidence available.
