The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has declared the Ejura-Nkoranza enclave as a high security zone. The declaration follows what the command described asĀ incessant armed robbery attacks in the area, which led to the murder of a police officer on the Ejura-Nkoranza highway recently.
According to the police, one of the suspects has so far been arrested, as theĀ police pursue the others.
Information available to The Chronicle has it that about five persons have lost their lives in suspected armed robbery operations in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region, with the latest one being the murder of the police officer.
The Asante Mampong Divisional Police Commander, ACP David Kwasi Amoako, disclosed this after a meeting between the Ashanti North Regional Police Command and the Ejura Traditional Council on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
In attendance at the high-level meeting were the Chief of Ejura Traditional Area, Barima Osei Hwedie II and his elders, the Ashanti North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ofosu Ackaah, the Municipal chief executive of Ejura, Dr Kingsley Osei, the Ejura District Police Commander Superintendent Achaab Bismark and other heads of security agencies.
ACP Kwasi Amoako warned that anyone who engages in activities that will directly or indirectly threaten the peace of residents and commuters on the highway would be dealt with according to the laws of the land.
He added that, police in the area would continue to intensify surveillance operations across the Municipality and āzoom inā on criminals to stop them from attacking and killing people.
The chief of Ejura Traditional Area, Barima Osei Hwedie II, on his part bemoaned the rate at which nomadic herdsmen are invading their communities and called on the security agencies to help stop them.
He noted that thousands of farmers, both large and small scale, have suffered huge blow at the hands of the herdsmen men, hence the need for police to act with immediate effect.
He pledged his commitment to supporting the security agencies to protect Ejura citizens from these nomadic herdsmen.
