The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie has filed a lawsuit against the National Investment Bank (NIB), alleging that the bank’s staff tampered with her late husband’s accounts.
In a writ of summons filed at the High Court in Accra on January 22, 2025 COP Andoh-Kwofie, represented by her legal team, led by Kofi Bentil of Lex Praxis Incorporated, is seeking an order compelling NIB to release accurate statements of all bank accounts belonging to her late husband, COP Stephen Andoh-Kwofie.
According to the statement of claim, the plaintiff, who is the administrator of her husband’s estate was informed by the deceased that he had multiple accounts with NIB, both in his name and in the name of his company, ANEBONA.
These accounts, she claims, contained substantial deposits running into millions of Ghana cedis.
However, she contends that upon receiving bank statements for accounts such as 5012002254901-USD-ANEBONA; 5012002254902-GBP-ANEBONA and 1112036310201-CORPORATE-ANEBONA, she noticed significant discrepancies with the balances falling far short of the millions she expected.
The lawsuit details that despite multiple requests, NIB has failed to provide a full and accurate account of the balances and transactions related to her late husband’s accounts.
The plaintiff alleges that some bank officials initially confirmed the existence of significant funds in the accounts but later became unresponsive when she demanded detailed statements.
She further asserts that she was told of internal issues at the bank involving staff tampering with client accounts, including her husband’s.
Upon pressing for records, she received statements that allegedly contained discrepancies and missing transactions.
The legal action demands;
- A complete and accurate list of all accounts held by the late COP Andoh-Kwofie.
- Statements for all accounts from December 1, 2014 to date.
- General damages.
- Costs of the suit.
The plaintiff argues that unless compelled by the court, NIB will not release the full and accurate banking records, thereby denying the estate of her late husband access to its rightful funds.
