The People’s National Convention (PNC) has strongly condemned the violence that marred the Ablekuma North re-run election, describing it as a dangerous trend threatening Ghana’s democratic stability.

In a fraternal message delivered at the ongoing National Delegates Conference in Accra, the PNC—whose symbol is the coconut—expressed grave concern over the increasing incidents of political violence in the country.

Citing the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and the 2020 general election violence, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, the PNC said these recurring events are a worrying stain on Ghana’s democratic record.

According to the party founded by Dr. Hilla Limann, such developments highlight the weaknesses and shortcomings in Ghana’s democratic architecture, especially at a time when the nation positions itself as a model of democracy on the African continent.

The PNC has endorsed growing calls for independent investigations into the electoral violence associated with these elections. It also urged the government, political parties, and civil society—particularly the Jubilee House—to work collectively toward ensuring that Ghana’s electoral processes remain peaceful, transparent, credible, and devoid of intimidation or bloodshed.

The party concluded by calling for a renewed national culture of tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful co-existence, especially as Ghana prepares for the 2024 general elections.
