The Circuit Court 11 in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, has granted bail to a 32-year-old photographer, Evans Kwasi Kordie, who allegedly threatened to distribute intimate images of a Nigerian student, Christabel Afia, on social media.

Kordie was charged with two counts — threat to distribute a prohibited intimate image or visual recording, contrary to Section 68 of the Cyber security Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, contrary to Section 207(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢40,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be a government worker earning not less than GH¢2,000 and the other a certified religious leader.

The case has been adjourned to November 18, 2025, to allow for possible settlement through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process.

Facts of the Case

Prosecutor Chief Inspector Daniel Appiah-Ofori told the court that the complainant, Christabel Afia, is a Nigerian student residing at Kokomlemle in Accra, while the accused lives at Amasaman, also in the Greater Accra Region.

The prosecutor said the two had been good friends and the complainant occasionally visited Kordie’s studio for photo shoots.

About eight months ago, Afia contacted Kordie for another shoot, but he informed her that he had relocated his studio to his residence at Amasaman.

After the session, the accused allegedly offered Afia a drink while waiting for the photos to be printed. She reportedly became tipsy after consuming it and passed the night in his room.

A few months later, the complainant severed ties with Kordie, after he began threatening to “deal with her” for reasons unknown.

On April 18, 2025 Kordie allegedly sent Afia a series of abusive WhatsApp messages, including threats to publish nude photos and videos of her, which he claimed were taken after their last photoshoot when she was unconscious.

To prove he was serious, the accused is said to have sent Afia nude photos of one of his former girlfriends who happened to be her friend, as evidence of his willingness to tarnish reputations.

Fearing public humiliation, Afia lodged a complaint with the police, leading to Kordie’s arrest on October 6, 2025.

During investigations, the accused reportedly admitted to having had intimacy with the complainant, but refused to hand over the alleged videos and images to assist the police.

He was subsequently charged and arraigned before the court.

Investigations are still ongoing.
