Philanthropist calls for permanent institution to handle protracted disputes in Bono East

A Kumasi-based philanthropist, Mr. Emmanuel Lord Boam, has appealed to the government to establish a formidable institution capable of handling the many prolonged chieftaincy disputes in the Bono East Region.

He noted that the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs was bedeviled with a number of chieftaincy disputes arising from disagreements among royal families in the Region.

Lord Boam, a native of the Pru East District of the Bono Region, who most of the youth in the region see as an peace ambassador, attributed the slow pace of socio-economic development in the region to the unending rows amongst chiefs in the area.

He hoped that with an institutionalised structure to adjudicate chieftaincy crises, there would always be immediate solutions when such situations come up.

According to him, the proposed structure would enable the authorities to identify the main causes of most of the disputes and proffer solutions.

Mr. Boam, who is a banker by profession, noted that stability among traditional leaders was imminent, because chiefs played a leading role in socio-economic development, and that until peace and tranquility were given the chance to reign in the chieftaincy institution, it would be very difficult for the region to realise the expected economic gains that had eluded the area for some time now.

The philanthropist also noted that there could not be harmony without the active involvement of the youth in the disputed areas, and entreated them to play a neutral role in their quest to help find lasting solutions to the raging chieftaincy disputes in the traditional area.

Mr. Boam said it has always been difficult for mediators to find solutions to disputes whenever the youth associate themselves with factions in the disputed areas and cautioned the youth to see themselves as peace ambassadors.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lord Boam has commended the kingmakers for their tremendous efforts at ensuring peace before, during and after the recent coronation ceremony of Nana Kwaku Dankwa II as the new chief for Mo Traditional area.
