The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Judge Christiana Cann has sentenced a 25-year-old painter, Kelvin Boateng, to a total of six years in prison for unlawful entry and stealing.
Boateng was convicted last Thursday after pleading guilty to two charges: unlawful entry and stealing, in violation of Sections 152 and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29/60). The prosecution was led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu. He is serving three years on each count but the sentences will run concurrently.
Case Details
According to court documents, the complainant, Dennis Appau, a graphic designer residing in La Kojo Sardine, was at work on December 31, 2024 around 10:30 am when the accused scaled the fence wall into his office premises. Boateng proceeded to break into one of the offices and stole an HP laptop valued at GH¢15,000.
However, a witness saw the accused in the act and raised an alarm. Boateng fled the scene and hid in an uncompleted building nearby.
The complainant and other witnesses mounted a search and eventually found him with the stolen laptop. He was arrested and handed over to the police. During interrogation, Boateng admitted to the crime.
Following investigations, he was charged and arraigned before the Circuit Court. After hearing the case, Judge Christiana Cann found him guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison.
