From Plastics to Purpose: How Newmont is Inspiring Tano North to Beat Plastic Pollution

0

On the morning of June 5, the town of Afrisipakrom awoke to a different rhythm. Along its bustling streets, school children laughed and marched beside mining engineers and professionals – partners in a shared mission to rid their town of plastic waste. For one day, this quiet community in Ghana’s Tano North Municipal Assembly became the stage for something extraordinary: a united stand against plastic pollution, led by Newmont’s Ahafo North Project.

With a lot of boots on the ground, bins in hand, and this message echoed through every corner of the town: “This land gave birth to us, let us not dishonour it.”

Making World Environment Day Personal

For World Environment Day 2025, Newmont Ahafo North did not just observe the occasion, they made it personal. Under the global theme Ending Plastic Pollution,’ the mining company brought together community members, traditional leaders, and students for a massive cleanup exercise designed to shift hearts, minds, and habits.

“We do not consider today as a regular date on the calendar,” said Charles Bissue, General Manager of Ahafo North, in a speech that struck a rare balance between urgency and inspiration. “It is a reminder – a call to action – that the health of our communities and planet is directly tied to how we manage our waste, especially plastic.”

A Cleaner Town, A Stronger Message

The campaign was more than symbolic. Students from six schools marched alongside Newmont employees and Afrisipakrom residents, transforming the cleanup into a vivid demonstration of collective power. As the last piece of plastic was collected from the roadside, twenty brand-new 240-liter waste bins were handed over to the schools.

These bins were more than containers. They were seeds of transformation. They represented a new mindset, teaching the next generation that sorting plastic from organic waste is not just a duty, but a habit of pride and a ritual of respect for Mother Earth.

“They are not just Newmont’s support to our communities,” Mr. Bissue emphasized. “They are tools for our shared future. We must own them. Use them. Maintain them.”

From the Mine to the Market: Living the Example

At the mine, Newmont has been walking the talk. Its “Chicken Parade”, a site-wide cleanup exercise, has evolved into a culture of responsibility that employees carry into their homes and communities. Through its Waste Segregation Programme, the company is showing that recycling begins with a simple decision: the decision to care.

“The difference,” one employee shared, “is not in how much waste we collect, but in how many minds we can change.”

One story shared during the event captured the heart of the movement. It was about an elderly woman, known for her spotless compound. When asked why she took such care, her answer was simple yet profound: “This land gave birth to us. If we don’t take care of it, we disgrace our ancestors and rob our children.”

That sentiment became the unofficial anthem of the day. It was no longer only about plastics or pollution; it was about dignity, heritage, and building a legacy of clean water, fertile land, and healthy people.

Students Take the Lead and the Road Ahead

As the event drew to a close, school children, many of whom are first time environmental champions, chanted in unison: “I Will Beat Plastic Pollution.” Their voices, young yet resolute, carried the promise of a better future. A future where waste is not a problem postponed, but a challenge tackled daily in classrooms, markets, and homes.

Newmont’s involvement in ending plastic pollution is clearly not about ticking boxes on a corporate checklist. It is about standing shoulder to shoulder with the people and proving that sustainability begins with small, consistent actions.

And as the dust settled on World Environment Day, one thing was clear: the bins may have stayed behind, but something far more valuable remained – belief.

Belief that the effort toward a cleaner, safer, and healthier Tano North Municipality has taken off.

Reasons Why Your Hair Is Falling Out

0
Hair Falling Out

You’re Hard on Your Hair

Sometimes it’s your styling routine that’s to blame when your hair starts to break or fall out. Using too much shampoo, brushing or combing your hair when it’s wet, rubbing hair dry with a towel, or brushing too hard or too often can all strain your strands and make them break. Two big causes of breakage include braids that are too tight and weaves that weigh down the hair.

You’re on Certain Meds

Take another look at the side effects of the drugs you’re taking — hair loss may be on the list. Examples of such meds include blood thinners, acne medications high in vitamin A, anabolic steroids, or medications for arthritis, depression, gout, heart problems, or high blood pressure.

You Just Had a Baby

When you’re pregnant, your hormones keep your hair from falling out as often as it normally does. That makes it seem thicker and more luscious. After you give birth, you lose the extra hair you’ve been hanging onto as your hormones shift again. Everything should balance out about 3 to 6 months later.

You Don’t Have Enough Iron

Iron helps keep your hair healthy. When levels drop, so can your hair. You’ll likely have other clues that low iron is to blame for your hair loss, like brittle nails, yellow or pale skin, shortness of breath, weakness, and a fast heartbeat.

You’re Stressed

Sometimes, large doses of stress can make your body’s immune system turn on itself and attack your hair follicles. Lots of worry and anxiety can also pause your hair growth, which makes hair more likely to fall out when you brush.

You’ve Had Weight Loss Surgery

You’re more likely to deal with this post-surgery symptom if your zinc levels are low, but it’s common to lose some locks after bariatric surgery. Your doctor may recommend a zinc and copper supplement to help halt your hair loss.

You Don’t Get Enough Protein

A body low on protein finds a way to conserve where it can, and that includes halting hair growth. About 2 to 3 months after that, hair starts to fall out. Adding more meat, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, and beans to your meals can pack more protein into your diet.

You’re on Birth Control

Hormonal birth control like oral contraceptives, implants, injections, vaginal rings, and patches can trigger hair loss if you have a history of it in your family. Your doctor might be able to recommend a non-hormonal option that may help you keep more of your locks.

You’ve Gone Off Birth Control

Not only can starting hormonal birth control kick off hair loss, so can quitting. You’ll probably notice a change several weeks or months after you stop.

You Have Another Condition

Hair loss is a symptom of more than 30 diseases, including polycystic ovary syndrome, ringworm on your scalp, thyroid disorders, and autoimmune diseases. You can also lose hair when you have the flu, a high fever, or an infection.

You Smoke

Your hair isn’t immune to the damage smoking can cause. Toxins in cigarette smoke can mess with your hair follicles and keep hair from growing and staying on your head.

You’re Going Through Menopause

The shifting hormones of it can ramp up shedding. It should go away after about 6 months. But if you notice your part widening, or hair loss at the top and crown of your head, talk to your doctor. You may have female pattern hair loss, which can be treated.

You Pull It Out

Hair-pulling disorder, or trichotillomania, is a mental health condition that makes you feel like pulling out your hair from your scalp. It can be hard to stop, even when you start to get bald patches. When you have it, you may want to pull out your eyelashes or eyebrows, too.

Feature: Once Saved Always Saved? Not So Continues

Pastor David Leroy Matthews

Satan runs this world until Yahshua (Jesus) returns.

‘Abomination desolation that will stand in the holy place’

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Daniel 12:11 And from the time [that] the daily [sacrifice] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, [there shall be] a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Revelation 14:9-10 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Revelation 14:11And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and ever: and they have neither rest day nor night, who worships the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Revelation 13:15-18

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.

Note: “Satan runs this world until Yahshua (Jesus) returns!’

From the American Heritage dictionary, VALENTINE 1: A sentimental card sent to a member of the opposite sex on Saint Valentine’s day – 2 a person singled out as one’s sweetheart on Saint Valentine’s day; 3 A heart-shaped symbol of love or affection used on Valentine.

A human’s heart is not shaped like a valentine. The Valentine is the shape of a woman’s posture as she is having sex with her husband, or boy friend or raped or prostitution.

Deuteronomy 12: 2

2 Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree: a

3 And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place

  1Kgs 14:22-24

22And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

23 For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

24 And there were also sodomites in the land: [and] they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.

(Sodomites in verse 24 is ‘Homosexual’)

  2Kgs 17:9-12

9And the children of Israel did secretly [those] things that [were] not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as [did] the heathen whom the Lord carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger:

12 For they served idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

2Chr 28:1-4

1Ahaz [was] twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not [that which was] right in the sight of the Lord, like David his father:

2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made molten images for Baalim.

3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.

4 He also sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

And so green Christmas Trees are sold in many countries. We had Christmas plays, I was the voice behind a curtain, I was the announcer of Jesus. We teenagers would go Christmas choiring and were shocked to see our pastor’s house with Christmas lights around his home. It was my job to put up the Christmas Tree. Millions of green Trees were sold at that time.

My older sister and I found the truth about the Christmas tree that it is not of the Lord. We were talking about it and our mother heard us, and was upset and cried; she went through a lot, to see that we had a wonderful Christmas.

My father would tell us that we would not get much, but he would surprise us by going into debt.

Satan has taken most of the born-again people into sin. He has succeeded in making born-again believers think Christmas is godly, but as a matter of fact and biblically, it is not. It breaks the covenant the Lord Has with His people, take note of ‘every green tree mentioned in the scriptures as we read above’ now the Christmas Tree, sold all over the world! Satan indeed rules the world until Jesus (Yahshua) returns.

 Rev 18:1-4

1And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

 Ex 20:1-6

1And God spake all these words, saying,

2 [am] the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of anything] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:

  5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;

6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Revelation 18:4

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

The whole world is deceived! Satan rules the world now, until the Lord Jesus Christ (Yahshua) returns! …… (To be continued)

GFA advances 40-bed hotel project at Prampram under World Cup Legacy plan

0
GFA president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku mixing concrete

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made a decisive move in advancing its ambitious World Cup Legacy Project with the planned construction of a 40-bed accommodation facility at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

This landmark initiative marks a significant step in the GFA’s commitment to long-term infrastructure development, national team support, and the sustainable growth of Ghanaian football.

At a recent Executive Council meeting on Monday June 9, 2025, the GFA reviewed and evaluated proposals from consultants, signaling the transition into the next critical phase of this transformative project. The construction of the new facility will be financed with proceeds from Ghana’s participation in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, a clear testament to the Association’s pledge to reinvest in the game by creating lasting assets that directly benefit the national teams and the broader football ecosystem.

The proposed facility will feature 40 fully equipped rooms, designed to offer residential, training, and retreat accommodation for Ghana’s national teams, spanning all levels from the U-17 sides to the senior men’s and women’s teams,  the Black Stars and the Black Queens. Once completed, the accommodation block will become the dedicated residential hub for national teams during local training camps, assignments, and preparations.

This development is expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency and logistical planning of national team activities, reducing reliance on external lodging facilities and allowing for a more cohesive, cost-effective, and high-performance environment.

Beyond its primary function, the facility also holds commercial potential. By offering hospitality services to external teams, organizations, and events, the GFA envisions additional revenue generation opportunities that will contribute to the Centre’s financial sustainability and operational independence.

The Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, already the heartbeat of Ghana’s technical football development, will be further elevated by this new addition, reinforcing its role as a premier hub for elite training, development, and team management.

President of the GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and the Association’s leadership remain steadfast in their mission to use the World Cup Legacy Project as a catalyst for long-term growth, improved professionalism, and infrastructural transformation.

The 40-bed facility stands as a bold and strategic response to the evolving demands of modern football, and a reflection of the GFA’s vision to create a more self-sufficient, well-resourced, and globally competitive football environment in Ghana.

Richard Ofori was included in Black Stars squad for AFCON 2023 to help him get a club -Felix Kyei reveals

Richard Ofori, Ghana

Medeama goalkeeper Felix Kyei has opened up on Richard Ofori’s sympathetic Black Stars inclusion for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, held in Ivory Coast.

Ofori made the 26-man squad for the continental tournament, where Ghana bowed out at group stage. However, Kyei, who was named on the Black Stars standby lists has disclosed the latter made the cut with the intention of helping him secure a club at the end of the tournament.

Revealing a conversation with the then Black Stars coach Chris Hughton on Medeama FM, the 22-year-old revealed he was dropped for Ofori in an attempt to help him revive his career and secure a new club.

“We were about leaving for Ivory Coast for AFCON, and at the same time, I had a match at Tamale with Medeama. One day, I received a call from the then Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, and he commended me for my performance and urged me to keep my performance. He told me I’m on the standby lists for the AFCON and that, I will be invited in case there is any unfortunate incident before the start of the tournament”

“Hughton told me if he has to drop any goalkeeper, it should be Richard Ofori but because of his leadership roles and other stuff he has to be included in the team. Again, I was told Ofori’s inclusion was to help him regain his confidence and also use the tournament as a springboard to get a new club”

“It was a Christmas, so Hughton wished me well and I told him I have no qualms since he is the head coach and knows what’s best for the team. It’s normal, anything can happen during a national team call ups” he added.

Everton manager David Moyes honoured with OBE

0
Everton manager David Moyes

Everton manager David Moyes has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the Prince of Wales.

Moyes, 62, managed West Ham from 2017 to 2024, and under his tenure the team secured its first major trophy in 43 years in the 2023 Europa Conference League.

He managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 and returned to the Merseyside team in January.

Moyes said Prince William had congratulated him on the way things had turned around in the second half of the season.

He said the Prince told him about going to Aston Villa games with his sons.

Moyes said: “I think in many ways it shows that the royal family are very much part of the people as well and want to do normal things in life”.

Aston Villa finished sixth in the Premier League, with Everton in 13th place.

They were just one point above the relegation zone when Moyes returned to Goodison in January.

The former Celtic and Preston player, who also managed Manchester United, said he learned about the honour in December.

Liverpool finalising deal for Leverkusen’s Wirtz

0
Florian Wirtz

Liverpool’s move for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz is at an advanced stage, with the clubs in discussions over the structure of a transfer that could be worth £114m.

The Reds submitted a third formal bid for the Germany playmaker last week, worth £100m guaranteed and a further £14m of add-ons. If completed, it would smash the club’s £75m record signing of captain Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

Sources have told BBC Sport that talks are now focused on the structure of the final details of the transfer, including the value of the add-ons and how achievable they are. Leverkusen had valued the midfielder at around £126m.

Wirtz, 22, has made it clear that his preference is to move to Anfield following interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

He made his debut for Leverkusen at the age of 17 and has scored 57 goals in 197 games for the club.

He helped them win the Bundesliga for the first time in 2024 and has scored seven goals in 31 appearances for Germany since making his national debut in 2021.

Liverpool have already signed one player from the German club this summer, with full-back Jeremie Frimpong arriving in a £34m deal.

Manchester City sign £46.5m Reijnders

0
Tijjani Reijnders

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders for an initial fee of £46.5m on a five-year contract.

The Netherlands international is Pep Guardiola’s fourth summer signing with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki having also joined.

Reijnders, 26, was signed in time to be eligible for this month’s Club World Cup in America and could make his debut on 18 June against Wydad FC.

“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” Reijnders said. “City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities.

“Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.”

The midfielder has been capped 23 times by the Netherlands but was left on the bench during Tuesday night’s 8-0 thrashing of Malta.

He scored 15 goals in 54 matches across all competitions for Milan last term and was named Serie A’s midfielder of the season.

With Kevin de Bruyne departing the club, Reijnders will strengthen the centre of the pitch for Guardiola as they look to improve on their third-placed Premier League finish last season.

A question being asked in the lead up to the Club World Cup was how seriously teams would be taking the expanded competition.

Manchester City have emphatically answered that question by moving quickly to bolster a wounded squad that will now hope to go far in the competition in the United States.

Chelsea confirm Sancho’s return to Manchester United

0
Jadon Sancho

Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday that Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United. The winger made 41 official appearances, scoring five goals and providing nine assists for the London club, who chose not to make a move to buy him permanently.

Jadon Sancho was loaned by Manchester United to Chelsea at the start of the season, and the Londoners had an option to buy him for 30 million euros.

The deal, however, reportedly broke down in negotiations with the player, particularly in terms of salary, forcing Chelsea to pay United six million euros in compensation.

In an official statement, Chelsea confirmed Sancho’s return to Manchester United, highlighting the winger’s goal in the Conference League final against Betis.

As a result, Jadon Sancho will not be at the Club World Cup for Chelsea and is now entering the final year of his contract with Manchester United.
