Mob burns woman alive

A woman identified simply as Amaye has been lynched and set ablaze by Muslim youths in Niger State for allegedly making blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

It was gathered that the incident occurred Saturday evening in Kasuwan-Garba town in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.

However, the District Head reportedly handed her over to security operatives for investigation but the mob pounced on her after overwhelming the operatives.

A police inspector attached to the Mobile Police Unit (MOPOL) has allegedly shot and killed a soldier in Futuk, in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

According to an eyewitness who requested anonymity, the police officer was escorting a truck allegedly loaded with mineral resources belonging to a Chinese mining company. The minerals were suspected to have been illegally mined from the Yalo mining sites.

The incident occurred when troops stationed at a checkpoint in Futuk attempted to stop the truck. The driver reportedly refused to comply, prompting the soldiers to pursue and intercept the vehicle.

Following an altercation between the security personnel, the police officer allegedly shot one of the soldiers.

The soldier was rushed to a hospital in Gombe State, where he was later confirmed dead.

Thugs disrupt inauguration of ADC committee in Kaduna

0
Former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, condemned the attack.

Suspected thugs on Saturday disrupted the inauguration of the transition committee members of the coalition of opposition parties under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, attacking participants and vandalising property.

The committee brought together members of an All Progressives Congress (APC) faction opposed to the state leadership alongside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), and the ADC.

The inauguration held in Kaduna descended into violence when hoodlums armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones disrupted the proceedings, eyewitnesses said.

Despite the attacks, the inauguration continued, though under tense and volatile conditions.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who attended the event, condemned the attack, calling it “a dangerous descent into lawlessness”.

He expressed outrage at the reported inaction of policemen deployed to the scene, accusing them of complicity in the mayhem.

He warned that political thuggery in the state must be stopped, alleging that senior police officers at the scene, including an Assistant Commissioner of Police, “stood by and watched” as the violence unfolded.

“If the authorities don’t end the introduction of thuggery into Kaduna politics, God help us. Nobody has a monopoly on violence or thugs.

“We will take decisive steps to ensure this does not repeat itself,” El-Rufai said.

He also vowed to escalate the matter to the Police Service Commission, claiming that the police had violated regulations by failing to intervene.

But the Kaduna State Police Command blamed El-Rufa’i for the incident, stating that the former governor failed to notify the police and other relevant security agencies about the meeting, despite repeated warnings and advice.

Parliamentary Committee on Lands and Natural Resources engages GMC

0

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources, with support from the Ghana Chamber of Mines, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) at Nsuta Wassa in the Western Region.

The engagement formed part of Parliament’s oversight responsibilities and the Chamber’s efforts to facilitate constructive dialogue between policymakers and the mining industry.

Mr Sanja Nanja, Vice Chairman of the Committee, said such visits were crucial in deepening Parliament’s understanding of the sector.

“Our role as Legislators is not only to enact laws but also to gain first-hand knowledge of the challenges and contributions of the extractive industries.

“This enables us to advocate better for both government and industry in ways that ensure sustainable growth,” he stated.

Officials of GMC reaffirmed the company’s commitment to meeting all fiscal obligations and briefed the Committee on tax payments and dividends, highlighting its contribution to national revenue.

A major topic of discussion was the construction of a manganese refinery. While acknowledging delays, the Committee urged GMC to take ownership of the initiative, stressing that value addition was critical to Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

The company also raised concerns about inadequate railway infrastructure, which continues to hinder efficient transport of manganese ore to ports, thereby increasing operational costs and disrupting export timelines.

The Committee was further informed of ongoing exploration activities within GMC’s concession and adjoining areas to extend the mine’s life beyond its current 30-year lease, which expires in 2049.

At the close of the engagement, three priority areas were identified for urgent attention – construction of the refinery, development of railway infrastructure and tackling illegal mining within the concession.

Mr Sanja Nanja assured the company of Parliament’s support, urging GMC to formally submit its challenges and requests to guide the Committee’s advocacy with relevant government agencies.

Ing. Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, commended the engagement, noting that it exemplified the Chamber’s role in fostering dialogue between government and industry to resolve bottlenecks and ensure mining continues to deliver value to Ghana’s economy and communities.

IGP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohonu, has reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the Bole area of the Savannah Region, during a strategic engagement with the Special Operations Team deployed there.

The high-level engagement took place at the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters in Damongo, where the IGP met with members of the Special Operations Team assigned to Bole for the maintenance of law and order.

The team had travelled to Damongo specifically for the meeting.

In a stirring address, Mr. Yohonu commended the team for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of discipline and ethical conduct in their operations.

“The role you play in stabilizing communities affected by conflict cannot be overstated,” the IGP said. “Let your presence be a symbol of safety and reassurance to the people.”

He emphasized the importance of proactive policing, timely intelligence gathering, and collaboration with other security agencies.

The IGP underscored the need for enhanced inter-agency coordination, unity of purpose, and efficient communication to ensure lasting peace in the region.

As part of new directives, the Special Operations Team was instructed to intensify daily patrols, particularly in boundary areas of Bole where recent displacement of residents has raised security concerns.

Securing these vulnerable zones remains a top priority, the IGP added.

Following the engagement, the Special Operations Team returned to Bole to continue their routine operations, which include community patrols, intelligence-gathering activities, and conflict prevention efforts.

Since their deployment, the team’s presence has played a key role in maintaining public order and restoring confidence among community members. Police sources say early indicators point to a significant reduction in tensions and disturbances in the area.

The IGP’s visit and his reaffirmation of support signal the police administration’s determination to safeguard peace and uphold security across all corners of the Savannah Region.

Adutwum: I Will Fight Poverty … And Rescue Ghanaians If Elected To Lead NPP And Subsequently The Nation

0
Dr Yaw Adutwum

Dr. Yaw OseiAdutwum, former Minister for Education and a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared an unwavering commitment to eradicating poverty in Ghana, as he officially filed his nomination to contest the party’s flagbearer position.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra, on Friday, Dr.Adutwum outlined a bold and compassionate vision for Ghana’s future, promising a campaign focused on unity, decency and development.

According to him, he will wage a war against poverty, a cancer that has plagued the Ghanaian society for far too long. “We are going to do what people never imagined could happen in this country,” he said.

Reflecting emotionally on his personal journey, from growing up in a modest home in the Bosomtwe District to becoming Minister for Education, Dr.Adutwum called his political journey “a Ghanaian dream.”

“A young man with uneducated parents, growing up in a humble background and becoming the Minister of Education, that is the story of Ghana. It is a story of opportunity. I want every child in Ghana to believe that their best days are ahead,” Dr Adutwum said.

He thanked President Nana AddoDankwaAkufo-Addo for giving him the opportunity to serve the country and acknowledged the support of teachers, parents and party executives who helped him succeed in the education sector.

“STEM education is now a household term in Ghana, That legacy will continue,” he added.

DrAdutwum pledged to run a clean, issue-based campaign devoid of violence and personal attacks.

“I’m going to make a clean campaign, a campaign without acronyms, a campaign without violence. Let the people of Ghana know who we are and what we stand for.”

He urged delegates and party faithful to get on board what he called “the beautiful train” of transformation, which he believes will deliver lasting change for the nation.

The Road to 2028

Looking ahead, Dr.Adutwum expressed hope that, if chosen as the party’s candidate and eventually elected in the 2028 national election, his administration would chart a new course of leadership focused on prosperity, opportunity and inclusive growth.

“Every government before us has done something great,” he said, referencing leaders from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to John AgyekumKufuor and beyond.

“But now, we must seize the moment. The time to defeat poverty is now.”

Party Confirms End of Nomination Period

Speaking at the same event, KwabenaAbankwah-Yeboah, a member of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, confirmed the close of nominations for the party’s flagbearership, which opened on July 29, 2025.

He disclosed that five aspirants have submitted their forms, namely;KwabenaAgyeiAgyepong,  KennedyAgyapong, Bryan Acheampong,Dr.MahamuduBawumia and Dr. Yaw OseiAdutwum.

“All forms will be forwarded to the vetting committee. By October 8, 2025 the final list of qualified candidates will be published,” Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah stated.

He emphasised the importance of decorum throughout the campaign period, encouraging candidates and supporters to maintain united and respect within the party.

“We expect a family atmosphere throughout this process. Any concerns can be addressed through our established complaint systems,”Abankwah-Yeboah said.

As the vetting process begins, Dr.Adutwum positions himself as a reformer with a proven track record and a vision that appeals to both the grassroots and the technocratic class.

Whether his message will resonate with the NPP’s delegates and the broader Ghanaian public remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: the race for the 2028 presidency has officially begun.

My Vision Is To Expand The Economy -Bawumia

0
Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Former Presidential Candidate and flagbearer hopeful of NPP

Former Presidential Candidate and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia says his quest to lead the party into the 2028 General Elections is anchored on a mission to change the narrative of Ghana’s struggling economy, which has returned to the IMF seven times since independence.

“My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas that provide incentives such as a flat tax system for individuals, corporates and imports, and an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and create jobs for the youth,” Dr.Bawumia declared, as he submitted his nomination forms at the NPP headquarters in Accra yesterday.

Riding on his track record as Vice President, he pointed to major policy interventions he championed under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, which included the Bank of Ghana’s Gold Purchase Programme (first in Africa), Gold for Oil (first in Africa), the accelerated issuance of the Ghana Card, Mobile Money Interoperability, GhanaPost Digital Address System, Agenda 111, One Constituency One Ambulance, Zipline medical drones, the Universal QR code system and the No Guarantor Student loan policy, among others.

He argued that these “rich, innovative and practical ideas” have laid the foundation for a modern, digital economy.

Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that many Ghanaians are struggling with job losses and the high cost of living, promising that a future NPP government under his leadership would restore livelihoods, reduce costs for ordinary citizens and prioritise support for the vulnerable.

He pledged to introduce a constituency-based development and budgeting framework to ensure that resources benefit local communities directly.

“My vision is for a modern digitalized economy that offers equal opportunities to all – women, the physically challenged and the grassroots and not just the rich,” he stressed.

He added that a Bawumia government would energise domestic production, create jobs and dedicate 3% of GDP expenditure currently undertaken by the public sector to the private sector, ensuring that procurement is made locally.

Loyalty to Party and Country

Recalling his sacrifices for the NPP, Dr. Bawumia emphasised his deep sense of duty:“This country and this party have given me so much. That is why I laid down my job at the Bank of Ghana in 2008 to support the NPP. That is why I left my position at the African Development Bank in 2012. That is why I stood as star witness in the 2013 Supreme Court petition. That is why I conceded the 2024 elections to preserve the nation’s peace. I have never hesitated to put myself on the line for the NPP and for Ghana.”

He assured the grassroots of his support, noting that a future Bawumia government would recognise and reward their sacrifices.

Dr.Bawumia charged the NPP to remain united as the party prepares for 2028: “The greatest desire of all our colleagues is victory in 2028. We must put our best foot forward. To win, we must not just talk unity; we must live it.”

He condemned internal attacks, tribal sentiments and religious divisions within the NPP, warning that they only serve as ammunition for the opposition.

“The repeated attacks by our own party folk are not helpful. If you claim to be a true patriot and want the NPP to win in 2028, then stop it. Stop the internal attacks now. Stop the religious and tribal attacks now,” he cautioned.

Lessons from 2024 and Attacks on NDC

Reflecting on the 2024 defeat, Dr.Bawumia admitted that economic hardship contributed significantly to the loss, despite the introduction of several good programmes.

“We lost because of the economic pain our citizens felt. But we have learnt lessons and those lessons will be put to good use when we return to office,” he assured.

He accused the NDC government of failing to deliver on key promises such as paying cocoa farmers GH₵6,000- repealing LI 2462 to fight galamsey and creating jobs through a so-called 24-hour economy.

He also noted that remittances have dropped by 50% due to exchange rate misalignments.

Message to NPP Flagbearer Aspirants

In an admonition to fellow aspirants, Dr.Bawumia urged them to direct their firepower at holding the NDC accountable rather than attacking him or each other.

“Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there. The NPP needs unity to win, and I promise that I will not do anything to bring division or conflict within this party.”
