Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has spoken on her relationship with fellow music icon Davido, clarifying recent tensions and stressing that she harbours no ill will toward him.

Tiwa Savage explained that despite public speculation, her bond with Davido remains positive and rooted in mutual respect.

“I haven’t spoken to you, Davido, but I do want you to know that I do love you and I would never betray you or like take sides,” she said in an interview on The Breakfast Club.

The singer revealed she had filed a police report against Davido, noting that the move was driven by precaution rather than hostility.

According to her, the misunderstanding escalated after what she described as a miscommunication.

“I think it was a miscommunication,” she noted.

“I think out of anger, maybe he might have made threats.”

While Savage admitted she did not believe Davido would carry out those threats, she emphasised the importance of protecting herself.

“He might have made threats, but do I think he was really going to go ahead with it? No, but again I’m not taking any risks,” she said. “You could be saying it around people who wanna now act out on what you’re saying.”

Before resorting to official measures, Savage explained that she first tried to resolve the matter quietly by contacting Davido’s older family members.

“Before I did that, though I reached out to members of his family, I’m not gonna say names, but people that are older than him, and I said okay, I’m hearing threats, can we solve this, and none of them came back to me,” she said. “Just for the record, before I do anything can we solve this?”

Archipalago releases new single titled ‘Land Baron’

Archipalago

Archipalago has released a new track titled Land Baron, a project that redefines his artistry and positions him as one of the hottest names in the game. The song not only elevates his craft but also reminds Gen Z listeners of his contributions to the music industry.

In the record, Archipalago blends nostalgia with modern flair, declaring that he is bringing back the golden era of Hiplife into today’s sound. He further amplifies this by incorporating Busta Rhymes’ classic 1997 beat Dangerous, giving the track a nostalgic flair that resonates with older fans while still feeling fresh for new listeners. According to him, this approach makes him appealing both to the “old gees” and the new Gen Z audience.

True to rap culture, he also fires shots at the mainstream, warning rappers like Lyrical Joe, King Paluta, and Kwesi Arthur that he has the skill to go head-to-head with them. “I’m a land baron,” he asserts, signaling danger to competitors and challenging them to raise their game. The track showcases a consistent rap pattern that rides seamlessly on the beat, delivering what could be considered one of Archipalago’s best works in recent times.

The title Land Baron cleverly builds on Sarkodie’s self-styled moniker Landlord, presenting Archipalago’s claim as an elevation of that status.

Recently, Archipalago’s efforts have earned him two prestigious nominations at the 2025 Ghana Entertainment Awards USA — Artiste of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. These recognitions highlight his growing impact on the industry and further cement his position as a force to be reckoned with.

Mr Eazi shares what it’s like to marry a billionaire’s daughter

Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola

Nigerian singer Mr Eazi has spoken candidly about his marriage to Temi Otedola, daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola.

In an interview on the 90sBaby Show, the artist revealed that Temi had seen him as her future husband from the very beginning of their relationship.

He said, “One thing she always says is that from the first day, she knew I was her man. We met in 2017. At the time, I was hot, everyone was singing my songs, but I didn’t really have money in my bank account. I wasn’t where I am now.”

Mr Eazi explained that although he was already gaining recognition in the music industry when they met, he had not yet achieved financial stability or built the business empire he has today. He stressed that Temi’s decision to be with him was not influenced by wealth.

He clarified, “If she was meeting me where I am now, I have my own venture capital company where I invest. I’ve invested in over ten businesses across the world, from Latin America to Africa. My label is now worth a couple of million dollars. But this was her meeting me before all that.”

The singer went on to reflect on power, money and humility. Referring to a Ghanaian proverb, he noted that true wealth rarely needs to be displayed.

“One thing I’ve noticed is that many people with real power don’t show it. There’s a Ghanaian saying that goes, ‘Sika mpe dede,’ which means money doesn’t like noise. A lot of true wealth, especially old money, doesn’t make noise.”

Hosting Commonwealth Games Is A Dream That Must Be Realised –Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has described Nigeria’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games as a “dream” that must become reality.

In a post on his official X account on Wednesday, Tinubu noted that no African nation has ever hosted the Games.

He said bringing the 2030 edition to Nigeria would send a powerful message that Africa is vital to the future of the Commonwealth.

Nigeria is scheduled to present its final bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games before the event’s evaluation committee on Wednesday.

The Nigerian delegation is led by Shehu Dikko, President of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), alongside the Commission’s Director-General, Bukola Olopade.

In support of Nigeria’s bid to host the event, President Tinubu declared, “It’s time for Africa,” and urged the Commonwealth to “complete the circle of unity.”

The Commonwealth Games is a multi-sport event held every four years, primarily featuring countries that are former territories of the United Kingdom.

In April, the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) announced that it has met the March 28, 2025 deadline for expression of interest to bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Nigeria lost a bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Glasgow.

The NOC said Nigeria’s bid for the 2030 Games in capital city Abuja will present a unique opportunity to showcase its development, enhance its global standing and invigorate its sports culture.

Nigeria last hosted a major multi-sport event, the African Games, in 2003 in Abuja.

The next Commonwealths will again be hosted in Glasgow, Scotland, from March 17 to March 29, 2026.

NSIB Blames Poor Maintenance, Faulty Track Switch For Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment

0
The Abuja-Kaduna train derailment scene

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has said that its investigation into the recent Abuja-Kaduna train derailment at Asham Station has revealed that poor maintenance and a faulty track switch were key factors behind the incident.

According to the preliminary findings, several sleepers at the station that had been damaged in a previous incident were only patched instead of being properly repaired.

Investigators also found that the automatic switch mechanism at the station’s crossing point was unserviceable at the time of the derailment, which is the second to occur at the same station within 13 months.

As a result, the switch had to be manually operated and secured using a point clip, which was later discovered to be broken. This compromised the integrity of the track alignment, leading to the derailment.

The report also noted that personnel of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) had received only initial training with no formal refresher courses, raising further concerns about safety standards and preparedness.

Operational and maintenance tools, including spare parts from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), were reported to be largely inaccessible at the time of the incident.

While 21 passengers sustained injuries in the accident that occurred on August 26, 2025, there were no fatalities among the 618 people on board the train.

In response, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) issued several safety recommendations. These include replacing all compromised sleepers, installing OEM-standard point switches along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, and restoring all defective monitoring equipment.

The bureau also emphasized the need for regular refresher training for NRC personnel to reduce the risk of future accidents.

It noted, however, that the findings remain preliminary and are subject to further analysis.

Police ask court to issue arrest warrant against Andy Uba over alleged N400m job scam

Andy Uba

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has formally asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of ex-senator Andy Uba over a N400 million job scam.

The police intend to arrest Uba and bring him to court for trial.

The IGP sought the arrest order on Wednesday following the persistent absence of Uba, who once represented Anambra South in the Senate, to appear in court for arraignment over the alleged appointment fraud.

The trial judge, Justice Mohammed Umar had, in July, slated Wednesday for the arraignment of Uba and his co-defendant, Benjamin Etu.

When the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/538/2024 was called on Wednesday, counsel to the defendants, C.L Odiniru apologized for Uba’s absence and said the former senator is sick and receiving treatment in the United States.

Counsel to the prosecution (IGP), Aminu Abdullahi, however told the court that the defense counsel had, during previous proceedings in the matter, given sickness as reason for the absence of the first defendant without adducing any documentary evidence to show that he is actually sick and cannot face his trial.

Abdullahi prayed the court to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the former senator.

Defense counsel, Odiniru, opposed the application for a bench warrant and following a directive of the court, said the defense has obtained documents showing that Uba is receiving treatment abroad.

But responding, Abdullahi said granting the application for bench warrant will be in the best interest of justice.

Justice Umar who was apparently angry over the repeated absence of Andy Uba, said the court will do whatever it takes to ensure that he is present to face his trial if he failed to come to court on the next adjourned date.

“I will give you another opportunity by giving you another date. This case must be heard this year. Even if it means issuing a bench warrant of arrest, the court will do that,” the judge said and adjourned the matter till October 28, 2025 for Uba and his co-defendant to take their plea.

It would be recalled that the prosecution had, on March 5, 2025, amended a two-count charge filed against Uba and his co-defendant, Benjamin Etu, before the former trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo.

Italian tourist town imposes a tax on visiting dogs

0
Italian tourist town

Well-traveled pets already get their own passports. Now, in an age of overtourism — where visitors are sometimes charged fees to counter their impact on inundated communities — there’s inevitably a tourist tax on dogs.

Starting in 2026, owners of dogs visiting the northern Italian city of Bolzano will be hounded for a daily tax of 1.50 euros, just under $2, part of a wider and controversial clampdown on canines in the pristine destination, a gateway to the Dolomite mountains.

They won’t be the only ones. Local owners are being asked to pay an annual tax of 100 euros per dog.

The initiative is meant to offset the cost of street cleaning and to fund new parks designed exclusively for dogs and their owners. It remains unclear, however, whether rumors that dogs will be barred from regular city parks will prove true.

The tax comes on the heels of another contentious measure: requiring owners to pay to have their dogs’ DNA registered so that uncollected droppings can be matched to the culprit and fines issued. Dog owners who fail to pick up after their pets currently face penalties of up to 600 euros per violation.

Provincial Councilor Luis Walcher, who introduced the measure, said that those who have already complied with the DNA registry will be exempt from the new levy for two years.

Singapore telecom apologises over outage linked to deaths in Australia

Singtel CEO Yuen Kuan Moon says the company is 'deeply sorry' over the incident

Singapore’s largest telecom operator has apologised over an emergency services outage in Australia that was blamed for several deaths.

Singtel, the owner of Australian telecom Optus, issued the apology on Wednesday after hundreds of calls to Australia’s Triple Zero (000) emergency line failed during a major technical glitch last week.

The outage on the Optus network on Thursday was linked to the deaths of three people.

In a statement published on the website of the Singapore stock exchange, Singtel CEO Yuen Kuan Moon said the company was “deeply sorry” over the incident.

“Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those who have passed away and we know that Optus will get to the bottom of this matter,” Yuen said.

“We are working with the Optus board and management to ensure a thorough investigation of this incident to prevent any future recurrence.”

Yuen added that Singtel was committed to the “ongoing transformation” of Optus under CEO Stephen Rue, who took up the position in November.

“The Singtel Group has supported Optus by investing over A$9.3 billion [$6.1bn] in the past five years with a large proportion of that put to building network infrastructure across Australia, and will continue to invest as needed for Optus to provide reliable communication services to all Australians,” Yuen said.

Rue also offered an apology.

“There are no words that can express how sorry I am about the very sad loss of the lives of four people, who could not reach emergency services in their time of need,” he said.

Australia journalist unfairly fired over Gaza post awarded A$150,000

Antoinette Lattouf dismissal triggered a wave of public outrage

Australia’s national broadcaster has been ordered to pay A$150,000 (£73,435; $99,200) in penalties for unfairly sacking a presenter over a social media post about the war in Gaza.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) took fill-in radio host Antoinette Lattouf off air in December 2023 due to her political views and after lobbying from pro-Israel groups, the Federal Court found earlier this year.

Lattouf has already been awarded A$70,000 in damages, but on Wednesday Justice Darryl Rangiah said the “substantial” extra sum was needed to ensure the ABC learned its lesson.

The broadcaster has publicly apologised to Lattouf, saying it also failed its staff and audiences. Lattouf’s dismissal triggered a wave of public outrage and created turmoil at the ABC – raising questions over its independence and reviving concerns over how it supports employees, particularly those who are culturally diverse.

“The ABC let down the Australian public badly when it abjectly surrendered the rights of its employee… to appease a lobby group,” Justice Rangiah said on Wednesday.

“The public scrutiny the ABC has faced must surely have brought home to the ABC the unacceptability of its contravening conduct. Nevertheless, I consider that substantial penalties are necessary to ensure that the message is received and heeded.”

Lattouf has been a regular contributor in Australian media for years, but also made a name for herself as an activist on issues like racism, discrimination in media and mental health.
