I regret giving Shatta Wale attention; Ponobiom

Ponobiom

Uptown Energy Rapper, Ponobiom, formerly known as Yaa Pono, says he regrets replying Shatta Wale’s lyrical warfare with him.

The beef started in 2017 when reports went viral that Shatta Wale had prevented Ponobiom from performing at an event at the Cape Coast Stadium, which had the former as the headline Artiste.

Ponobiom indicated that, for the fear of stealing the show at the Cape Coast Stadium, Shatta Wale did everything possible to prevent him from performing. This, according to him, is due to the fact that he has a huge fan base in Cape Coast than Shatta Wale.

Unhappy with the utterances of Ponobiom about the incident, Shatta Wale responded by calling Ponobiom names, kick starting a lyrical war between the two.

Ponobiom had asked that Shatta should work with him to revive what was described as a dying music industry at the time.

Shatta Wale, however, referred to Ponobiom as an underground artist who didn’t deserve his hype and time. He, therefore, declined the request in a Twitter post.

This resulted in Ponobiom releasing the first diss song ‘Noko.’

Reacting to the incident years after their battle, Ponobiom in an interview said, “I wish I didn’t follow a fool.”

In an interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM which was monitored by The Chronicle, Ponobion said that one of his biggest regrets in his career as a musician was to have engaged in a public beef with Shatta Wale. To him, the dancehall act didn’t merit the battle in the first place.

According to Ponobiom, if he could turn back the hands of time, he would have ignored Shatta Wale.

The Department of Gender in the Volta Region, in collaboration with the Volta Region Coordinating Council (VRCC) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has trained members of the Community Parent Advocacy Support Group (COPASGS) on sexual education and effective parenting that would help reduce teenage pregnancy.

The 50 participants, who were drawn from North and South Dayi and Afadzto South Districts, were taken through sex education, gender roles, and the duties of parents in bringing up their wards in a manner that would make them grow up to become responsible adults, particularly the girl child, without becoming pregnant along the way as she developed into adulthood.

Addressing the participants at Kpeve, the South Dayi District capita, the Volta Regional Director of the Department of Gender, Mrs. Thywill Eyra Kpe, emphasised on the need for parents to develop good relationships between them and their children to enable them direct and offer advice that would prevent the girls from becoming pregnant, and joining bad groups on the part of the boys.

Mrs. Kpe noted that most parents had failed in performing their duties and found it difficult to provide their children with sex education, as they were unable to mention the words vagina and penis, adding that those children would learn about the reproductive organs wrongly from their peers and would be misled, which would result in teenage pregnancy.

She disclosed that the Volta Region recorded 6,200 teenage pregnancy cases in 2021, and most of the blame was put on the inability of parents to effectively bring their children up to become responsible adults.

A Resource Person and Volta Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mrs. Stella Agbezuhlor Mawutor, said there were simple strategies that parents could adopt in training their children, including being vigilant and caring, which would eventually make them adopt a more affectionate relationship.

Mrs. Mawutor noted that it would enable parents to easily impart knowledge to their children on sex education, and the children would equally feel more comfortable in providing information on their sexual life, which would go a long way to reduce teenage pregnancy cases.

The South Dayi District Public Health Nurse, Ms. Sena  Fiagbenya, announced that between January and March this year, out of every 100 pregnant women, 15 were children, and three girls between 10 to 14 years were pregnant, while 76 girls between the ages of 15 to 19 also became pregnant during the same period.

Adopt culture of maintenance in Green Ghana Project -North Dayi DCE

Edmond Kudjoh Atta, North Dayi DCE, watering a tree he planted to mark the day

The North Dayi District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Edmond Kudjoh Atta, has emphasised the need for the people in the area to adopt the culture of maintenance in relation to the tree planting exercise under the Green Ghana Project, which would go a long way to make the exercise more effective and profitable.

Mr. Atta observed that the Green Ghana Project would become meaningless if Ghanaians, particularly the people in the North Dayi District, did not change their attitude towards government-related projects, stressing on the need for all to show greater commitment to the Green Ghana Project by ensuring that trees would not only be planted, but nurtured to grow.

The DCE, who said this when he addressed the people, prior to the commencement of the 2022 tree planting exercise in the District at Vakpo, said the North Dayi would distinguish itself in the exercise by planting along the major roads, open spaces, schools and degraded lands in the area.

He disclosed that the Assembly had put in place measures since last year to ensure that everybody participated in the Green Ghana Project, by instituting an award scheme at the basic school level in the District to reward the best pupil who had grown and nurtured trees to grow in their respective schools.

Mr. Atta explained that the same award system had been instituted in the various communities, where chiefs, queenmothers, assembly members and residents of the various communities would plant a tree each, nurture and own them in order to ensure that they would be taken care of adequately thereby ensuring a high survival rate.

The DCE noted that the District had, so far, planted 12,000 trees, and more would be planted to meet the envisioned target, which included, avenue trees, fruit trees like mango and orange, and timber, which had economic values apart from beautification.

He continued that under the tree planting programme in schools, it was strategically planned that schools should plant trees along their boundaries as a way of preventing encroachers from developing their lands, and urged teachers to seriously monitor the exercise in their respective institutions so as to make the exercise more effective.

Mr. Atta commended the staff and management of the Anfoega Senior High School (SHS) for their commitment to the Green Ghana Project, which had made the institution to distinguish itself in the exercise.

The North Dayi DCE also used the day to inspect the level of growth of the trees planted last year and expressed satisfaction with the high level, including the one he personally planted.

The Headmaster of Anfoega Senior High School, Mr. Albert Dodo, commended the DCE, saying the high interest he had shown in the Green Ghana Project motivated the school to extend the project to the planting of economic trees that would help generate income for the school.

Mr. Dodo explained that the school had planted cashew, and was putting in place measures to add coconut cultivation, adding that since the institution offered Agriculture Science as a subject.

5 Principles to Successfully Living and Enjoying Life

0
Time for Reflection

Success usually comes to those who are too busy looking for it “Henry David Thoreau”

Here are 5 important key principles to successful living;

  1. Have a vision, a goal, target and purpose: Knowing who you are is enough for you to discover and truly understand why you exist on earth. A lack of purpose is missing the direction in which you are to follow in life. Knowing your purpose will help you soar higher out of storms since you know that one bad break in life is not a yardstick or an excuse to quit the race, the vision is where you want to see yourself one day and the hope that even though you are not there yet there is a sure hope that you will get there someday thus your hope is always built up because you know and believe in the vision. To be successful your goals and targets should always be your shield and encouragement. Once you hold them dear to your heart and ask for the Grace of God to help you fulfill each you are certainly on your way to achieving more and being successful.
  2. Learning: The act of understanding and acquiring the skills to acquire knowledge on a chosen subject. Learning is one core principle to successful living. Every individual has a goal or intended purpose for their lives and what they seek to achieve one day. As we grow there come days where we would wish to develop our learning skill which we can do in schools or learning a skill personally in order to develop ourselves and polish our craft. Without the acquisition of knowledge we may not know anything. To live a successful life and remain successful one must yield to the principle of learning.

Learn as if you will live forever, live like you will die tomorrow. “Mahatma Gandhi”

Learning requires effort and that effort if put into good use to acquire and achieve something out of the learning process it will all be worth it in the end.

  1. Hard work: you may not be able to achieve anything if you don’t put your mind to it. Effort is required in the hard work process. Effort yields significant results thus the absence of effort paves way for procrastination and laziness. Successful people work hard and have a vision they seek to achieve by a certain time period thus they focus their attention most of the time in remaining productive most of the time.

Winners embrace hard work. They love the discipline of it.the trade off they’re making to win. Losers, on the other hand, see it as punishment. And that’s the difference Lou Holtz

Be a winner. You may be winning in your field now yet still strive to be better and achieve more. To be successful you need to put in the work in order that some day you can look upon your labor with joy because you are enjoying its fruits.

  1. Financially stable, emotionally intelligent and spiritually sound: Money is one thing that sustains us as humans, money provides our basic needs and helps us keep ourselves together in order that we may not be dependent on others. Without money life will be very difficult to live. Lately money is almost becoming everything from our daily source of livelihood to our all in all. With money one can invest in their ideas and skills and businesses, this will make your business and other projects thrive. Financial stability contributes to successful living with even the little one has that little can be put into good use, aid one to work hard to also attain and achieve more. By being emotionally intelligent we know how to relate well and connect with other people, we know how to show kindness and have others well being and mental health to heart. Showing kindness to others paves way for people to capture your good deeds into mind and recommend you to other great people who are going to help promote you, your business and your ideas to a whole new level. That one act of kindness can open doors for you.Continue being kind and do not grow weary while doing good.

Where does your source of hope come from? Who do you reverence above all else?I believe in the assertion that having a strong spiritual backing will help you in all your lives endeavors. You may wonder how? Our human strength may fail us sometimes. When we go through difficulty it is easy to lay back and say no more that we may never try this particular task again yet once we have a strong spiritual backing that keeps resounding  in our ears to keep going with the faith and hope that everything will work out in our favor it encourages us more. I believe God should be each person’s source of hope for he remains the greatest. Do not sideline God on the journey in life. Allow him order your steps so you do not walk on dangerous grounds. He will show you the way and lead you towards the right route to a successful life. I encourage you through this medium today to trust God, put your plans and everything in his hands.

  1. Perseverance: Doing something despite the delay or difficulty involved in achieving success.Life is not always sweet, bitter and sour days are part of life. They teach us lessons to be better in our next attempt not so that we hate life and everything in it to the extent of questioning your own existence, No. Rather these are good examples that happen in your life so you can learn and pick up valuable lessons from them all. Without perseverance you may give up on life soon.To keep consistent in staying focused to learn the persevering process you ought to focus more on the vision. How far away is it? How many steps more would you have to take to get to your expected end? Are you going to quite after how far you have come? Keep persevering and doing your best in life for this is required of you in your success steps. To be counted amongst successful people and enjoy the fruits of successful living you out to begin planning your learning, your hard work; your keys to financial freedom, emotional intelligence and have that persevering spirit today.

The former president said this in a statement he posted on social media to celebrate Mr Abubakar who turned 80 on Monday.

Mr Jonathan described the former leader as a peace maker and nation builder due to his activities at the National Peace Committee.

“Your commitment to our national aspirations and considerable achievements as Head of State at a momentous period in the history of our nation has continued to be referenced as a watershed in the birthing of the Fourth Republic.

Moghalu resigns from ADC after losing presidential bid

0
Kingsley Moghalu

A former Deputy Governor of the CBN, Kingsley Moghalu, has resigned his membership in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) days after losing his bid for the party’s presidential ticket.

Mr Moghalu lost in a primary held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Wednesday, to the founder of Roots Television, Dumebi Kachikwu.

He polled 589 votes to come second behind Mr Kachikwu who scored 977 votes.

In his resignation letter addressed to the ADC National Chairman, Okey Nwosu, on Monday, the former CBN boss faulted the party leadership and the manner in which they handled the electoral process that produced Mr Kachikwu as the winner.

He said the exercise conducted by the ADC leadership was flawed with inconsistencies, similar to that noted within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He added that the “process and conduct” of the exercise contradicts his values.

“I have resigned because the process and conduct of the party’s presidential primary on June 8, 2022, at Abeokuta revealed a fundamental clash of values between me and your leadership of the party,” he said.

Mr Moghalu accused the leadership of the ADC of reneging on its promise to provide a level playing field for all aspirants during the primary election.

“Despite the circular you issued a few days to the primary committing the party to provide transportation and accommodation for delegates to and in Abeokuta, and which as we agreed would provide a level playing for all the presidential aspirants, the party under your leadership failed to do so.

“Some aspirants, including myself, made donations to the ADC party account as requested by the party for this purpose. This failure, which appeared intentional, created room for massive abuses of the electoral process including delegate capture and financial inducement of delegates. This is only one of the numerous inconsistencies and the absence of transparency and predictability in the management of the party that I had progressively complained about.

“As you are well aware, I have consistently resisted pressures to join the APC or the PDP precisely to avoid “cash-and-carry” politics. For me to remain a member of the ADC therefore, after what thousands of party members participated in at Abeokuta, would be to endorse political corruption of a most obscene order,” Mr Moghalu disclosed in the letter.

Mr Nwosu could not be reached for comments.

Tinubu warned on implications of Muslim-Muslim ticket

0

The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has been warned about the implication of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

An Abuja-based activist, Deji Adeyanju, warned Tinubu that settling for a Muslim-Muslim ticket would further polarise Nigeria.

He noted that “the divisions will become super obvious in the coming years” if Tinubu settles for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

In a Facebook post, Adeyanju said Tinubu should take the crisis in Kaduna State as a case study.

“Many have not grasped what a Tinubu and his Muslim-Muslim ticket will do to this country. The divisions will become super obvious in the coming years.

“People like Nasir El Rufai (Governor of Kaduna State) are already emboldened and we see all the outcomes in Kaduna already.

“Keep Nigeria United by recognizing our religious divide and carry everyone along. May God bless Nigeria and everyone,” he wrote.

Speaker of the House questions failure of 170 Reps to win party tickets for re-election

0
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has questioned the primaries of political parties held across the country.

He was concerned that about 178 serving members of the house failed to secure the ticket of their various parties to return to the green chamber of the National Assembly.

Gbajabiamila made the remarks on Tuesday in his opening remarks to the lawmaker at the resumption of plenary after over one month of recess.

According to him, many members lost because of the process of primaries, using the delegate system which is what the House fought for by making direct primaries compulsory in the Electoral Act which the President has yet to sign.

That clause of the Electoral Act had to be expunged, allowing political parties to decide their mode of primaries to select their candidates for various elections.

Controversial Direct Primary

President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law on February 25, amid outcry over his delayed assent to the legislation.

He assented to the Act barely a week before the expiration of the window he had to take a decision on the legislation, as required by the Nigerian Constitution.

This followed unsuccessful attempts to amend the nation’s electoral laws during the 8th National Assembly led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

But lawmakers in the 9th National Assembly successfully amended the act, although they also had an initial setback over the decision to make the direct mode of primary compulsory for political parties in 2021.

President Buhari had, however, withheld his assent, citing the cost of conducting direct primary elections, security challenges, and possible manipulation of electoral processes by political players as part of the reasons for his decision.

Thereafter, the House re-amended the law to include the direct and indirect primary options while the Senate re-adjusted it to include the direct, indirect, and consensus modes of selecting political parties’ candidates.

Both chambers later passed a harmonised version on January 25 – the final agreed version of the amendment to Clause 84 which included the direct, indirect, and consensus primary modes.

Russia threatens to strip anti-war protester of citizenship

Arshak Makichyan to lose citizenship

On February 24, Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine. That same day, Arshak Makichyan, who had earned the title of Moscow’s “lone climate protester”, married his girlfriend, Polina Oleinikova – and both were quick to join peace protests despite a widespread Russian crackdown on dissent.

In March, as the atmosphere for anyone publicly opposed to Moscow’s so-called “special operation” grew more repressive, the couple decided to go to Germany.

Now, Makichyan, who was born in Armenia but has Russian citizenship, fears he may never be able to return home to Moscow.

On June 27, the question of Makichyan’s citizenship will be raised at a court hearing in Russia’s capital. While officials say he illegally obtained his citizenship, he along with other activists claim the case is politically motivated.
