Lebanese take to streets as anger over economic meltdown grows

0
Retired Lebanese army and security forces veterans demanding inflation adjustments to their pensions, outside the government palace headquarters

Lebanese officers have fired tear gas at hundreds of people, mostly retired members of the security forces, who had gathered near government buildings in the capital to protests against deteriorating economic conditions.

Crowds on Wednesday gathered in the streets of central Beirut carrying Lebanon’s tricolour or flags bearing the logos of security forces. The protest was called for by retired soldiers and depositors who have had limited access to their savings after local banks imposed informal capital controls amid Lebanon’s financial crisis, the worst in the country’s modern history.

The protesters demanding better pay hurled stones at the officers protecting the government headquarters and repeatedly tried to break through the fence.

Several people suffered breathing problems from the tear gas.

The demonstrators were angry at the worsening value of state pensions paid in the local currency. The Lebanese pound has lost more than 98 percent of its value against the United States dollar since 2019, with the situation deteriorating in recent weeks.

The pound hit a new low on Tuesday, selling for more than 143,000 pounds to the dollar before making some gains. The official rate is 15,000 pounds to the dollar.

Earthquake in Pakistan and Afghanistan kills at least 19 people

0
The 6.5 magnitude earthquake sent people rushing out of their homes

At least 19 people have been killed and more than 200 injured after a powerful earthquake shook large parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The 6.5-magnitude quake damaged buildings, triggered landslides and sent people running into the streets.

It struck on Tuesday evening, centred in a mountainous region in Afghanistan’s north-east near the border with Pakistan.

Tremors from the remote Jurm valley were felt as far away as India.

“It was a terrifying tremor. I had never felt such a tremor before in my life,” Kabul resident Khatera told AFP news agency after rushing out of her fifth-storey apartment.

Ten of the deaths were reported in Afghanistan. A child was among those killed in Laghman province near the country’s border with Pakistan, AFP reported.

There were nine other deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in north-west Pakistan.

Many families had been out of their homes celebrating the Persian New Year or Nowruz when the quake hit.

The remoteness and rugged terrain mean that getting information about the extent of destruction or deaths in Afghanistan will take time. It is also likely to slow relief and rescue work.

But the damage found so far had been less than feared, emergency workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told AFP.

Swat district in the province is where most of the damage appears to have taken place in Pakistan. The dead and injured have been taken to local hospitals, while the main road has been blocked because of landslides.

Many in the affected regions braved near-freezing temperatures to sleep outside after the quake – fearing aftershocks. Some had dashed out of their homes barefoot when they felt the shaking.

In the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, a vast multi-storey residential block was evacuated after huge cracks appeared in the building. Phone lines have been affected in both countries.

Pastor David Leroy Matthews -Sozo Ministries, Ohio

It is very important that at this time when the world is going Cashless, and is buying and selling more and more with the number 666 in in their credit cards, apps, phones and other gadgets

Revelation 13:17-18

[17]And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

[18]Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Here in the U.S, there are stores that will not take cash. In whatever card you use, there is a black strip on the back of your card, you cannot read what is in the strip, look on what you buy, and you will see two thin bars on each end and two thin bars in the middle, they are W.W.W ‘world wide web’ = 666, you are already buying and selling with 666.

It is very important that at this time, that the people of (God) or (Lord) whatever one you use, does not convey the relationship (YAHWEH) wants with you, A Covenant relationship. The next time you are in church, you will hear “Lord or God” just like me in my past.

There are many gods in the world, there are ten thousand gods in one religion. On the back of the U.S.A. Dollar is an Egyptian pyramid with the all seeing EYE Osiris, a god, at the tip of the Dollar it says ‘ in God we trust’

Americans are deceived, thinking it is referring to the God of the Bible.

Exodus 18:11 Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.

For I the Lord (Covenant keeping one) thy God = El ‘All Mighty’. Why would the Holy One of our Bibles want to be on our Dollar bill with Osiris.

The word “Holy”  (is Sinless one). When any Born Again believer practice sin, you are grieving the Sinless Spirit in you

Ephesians 4:30

[30]And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Matthew 7:21-23

[21]Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

[22]Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

[23]And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Satan used Psychology to deceive Eve. the first word for God is Hebrew (Elohim) the creator

Genesis 3:1-6

[1]Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

[2]And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

[3]But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

[4]And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

[5]For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

[6]And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

There are those past and present who have ministered by the power of YAHWEH (God)

I read in our newspaper, a commentary by a Hebrew (Jew), He said that his grandmother was thrown in the river in Russia. As they drowned her, they said we drown this Jesus

Killer.

1 Corinthians 2:6-8

[6]Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

[7]But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

[8]Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Verse 6 … “the princes of this world, the demons of this world.” YAHWEH’S LAMB for us, set us free from the power of sin, and any demon power over us.

Our sinless lamb took on the punishment for our sins, the “Blood” shed at calvary was sinless, he was “Emmanuel” YAHWEH in the flesh.

(Matthew 1:23

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.)

YAHWEH is a spirit and not a person

1 Timothy 6:15-16

[15]Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

[16]Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen)

When a woman is accusing a man of being the father of the child, she gave birth to by rape or consentual sex, she takes him to court and he must take a blood Test.

The mother will contribute various psychical attributes. The blood of Yashuah (Jesus) was from YAHWEH (covenant making with us) a BLOOD COVENANT sinless blood. The temptation to sin, was from Mary.

John 5:43

I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive}

YAH = The father, SHUA = The Son, (pneuma hagion) The spirit of the Father is Holy (Sinless)

When it was said in Matthew 28:19

(Matthew 28:17-20

[17]And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

[18]And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

[19]Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

[20]Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.)

Much of the church world was misled because of lack of definitions, I am a father my name is David, I am a son, my name is David. When i became Born again, the sinless spirit of YAHWEH came in but my name is David

Colossians 1:27

[27]To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

The word Christ means ANOINTED ONE. I was born again in what is called A JESUS only Church. All of those churches believe that you must be baptized in Jesus name in order to be saved.

Five hundred years after the Apostles died, the LORD’S name was changed from ‘YAHSHUA’ to JESUS. Yahshua said He came in His Father’s name.

John 5:43  I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

You can’t get the Father’s name out of the name Jesus. Because of the difference in baptism, the Jesus Only said, the Trinity people were not saved. Neither one are born again because we did it right.

The Spirit of YAHWEH convict us of sin and we repented, and we said yes Lord according to what we knew, and His Spirit came into us, ‘PRAISE YAHWEH’ = Hal-le-lu-jah.

When it’s ‘Jehovah’ in your bibles, it’s YAHWEH, the covenant making and keeping One, when its ‘Jah’ in your bibles, it’s YAH. When our YAHWEH started me casting out demons, I used the name Jesus, the demons knew who I was talking about, when I as a servant, I prayed for the sick in Jesus’ name, and YAHWEH healed.

Baptism is for the Hebrews (Jews) when they were baptized, they were restored back into covenant with YAHWEH with all the benefits

Psalms 103:1-5

[1]Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

[2]Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

[3]Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

[4]Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

[5]Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

When Peter baptized Hebrews (Jews) they had all kinds of healings. The Gentiles were grafted into what the Hebrews had by faith. The Apostle Paul baptized three Hebrews and said, Christ sent me not to baptize. Philip was sent to baptize an Ethiopian Eunoch who was a proselyte, and had come to Jerusalem to worship.

Paul the Apostle to the Gentiles said, he was not sent to baptize

1 Corinthians 1:14-18

[14]I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

[15]Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

[16]And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

[17]For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

[18]For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

By the Spirit of Yahshua we are baptized. Luke 3:16

[16]John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Acts 1:5

[5]For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

By the Spirit of Yahshua, we are baptized into the body

Raised the dead using the name Jesus, just like some of you, but the (missing) part, No Covenant.

Amos 8:11

[11]Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

(Words (Hebrew = Dabar (daw-baw) meaning a word by implication, a matter as spoken of, or thing; THE VERY WORDS OF THE LORD.

1 Timothy 6:3-5

[3]If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

[4]He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

[5]Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

(Doting (Greek = Noseo) meaning to be sick (i.e. by implying of a diseased appetite), to hanker after; figuratively, to harp upon; dote.

Zephaniah 3:1-9

[1]Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!

[2]She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD (YAHWEH); she drew not near to her God.

[3]Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.

[4]Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

[5]The just LORD (YAHWEH) is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

[6]I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.

[7]I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

[8]Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD (YAHWEH), until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

[9]For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD (YAHWEH), to serve him with one consent.

Psalms 12:6

[6]The words of the LORD (YAHWEH) are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Psalms 119:140

[140]Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Proverbs 30:5-6

[5]Every word of God (ELOHIM) is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

[6]Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Hebrews 10:22

[22]Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:23

[23]Let us hold fast the profession (Covenant) of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

Acts 11:16

[16]Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Feature: What country do we want post-2024?

0
The Author, Mr Kwadwo Afari

This country could have been great. Ghana is black Africa, south of the Sahara’s, first independent country. Freedom offered hope to transform the people’s capacity to innovate and create wealth to ensure the mass of the citizens’ benefit. However, the failure to tackle the structure of the neo-colonial state after independence grievously damaged the independent agenda and worse still, failed to create a society in which individuals flourished.

The independence programme could not succeed because it did not address the major weaknesses of the Ghanaian economy. This country, since 1957, has been ruled by a narrow elite that have organised society on a distorted version of socialism, with borrowed money, for their own benefit, at the expense of the majority of citizens. This distorted version of socialism is very much alive today.

Our independent journey started on the wrong premise that government could solve most human problems through government planning, directing, and dictating, and that the resources and wealth of the entire country should be at the discretionary disposal of those in political power. Indeed, the freedom we now have concentrates political and economic power in the state, which makes Ghanaians mere agents and mere numbers in the population.

Ghana is in a vicious cycle of clientelism — taxes, and reckless public spending. We have squandered our riches away with subsidies, and reckless monetary and fiscal policies. Far from distributing the wealth as promised, our brand of socialism has accelerated poverty by throwing roadblocks that inhibit individuals from reaching their potential and increased corruption.

It seems the parties that claim property rights and the free market do not have the intellectual tools to fight back. Its vanguard activists now insists it is good to compromise with socialism, a view that retains immense political and rhetorical appeal. Presently, the remnants are in disarray, with the promises offered by Danquah and the UGCC in ruins. The socialist welfare state has produced a culture in which rights are asserted with little accompanying sense of obligation.

The state has taken control of the private sector and increasingly intervening in the economy and creating numerous new regulatory authorities. Ironically, the public sector is not controlled, as it should, with state institutions crumbling under the weight of corruption. Large parts of the country looked unusually run-down. The old local government system, and the abominable quality of many goods and services, make matters worse.

Meanwhile, tribalism is flourishing, the country is plagued by unemployment, critics go hungry, propaganda as news abounds, unchecked by mainstream media. The value of work, and personal responsibility, are replaced with honouring victimhood. Ordinary people across the political spectrum are increasingly concerned that the system is rigged against them. Trust in public institutions is near an all-time low.

Now private wealth is built on the back of public deficits. It is a spiral that is difficult to break out. Of course, bottomless public spending assures votes, while negative externalities are pushed to the future to be dealt with by the next elected government. Ironically, many critics and experts have overlooked the role socialist consumption has played in our poverty. Ghana is in a situation in which its capital is consumed as if the law of demand and supply does not exist.

Today, social mobility in the country is so low that the richest families at the top of the economic ladder are those in politics, form churches or are involved in criminal activities, especially drugs. Ghana hardly resembles the country our parents envisioned at independence.

A critical look at the informal economy reveals the true Ghanaian way of life. The Ghanaian way is independence, entrepreneurialism and liberty. These have been under socialist assault for decades. Still many people would want to believe that a key to growing the economy is income or wealth redistribution, but this view is a mistake. While, redistribution provides temporary relief for some of the poorest it stunts personal success for the majority.

The poor in particular, should know better because they had already experienced the pain caused by “big government central planning, since 1957. The CPP’s socialist policies closely mirrored much of what we have in Ghana today.

Unfortunately, the official class and their intelligentsia will turn up their noses at this, and the masses will not even listen if you tried to warn them about the missing opportunities in creating wealth in the economy. Without a proper understanding of the framework by which this country can escape poverty, we are doomed.

The path of “soft socialism” that is still progressing stealthily toward greater and greater government control is inevitably a slippery slope to ultimate destruction. Sadly, we are so distracted by social decadence, self-satisfaction, greed, corruption, and rejection of basic truths that we fail to notice our rights and liberties are being dismantled. No one remembers and stands up for foundational values. Our mind-set is making us vote for the ordinary idea of complete centralisation of the direction of economic activity.

We need clearer thinking about economic planning, and we have to stop using economic policies to buy political support. That should be the key for those who still claim to be classical liberals. Classical liberals have to bring something to the table. Classical liberals have to differentiate themselves. It is really time for the voting public to remember that democracy is essentially an individualist institution, which attaches value to the individual.

Ghana could develop. The country could overhaul, reform the way we organise the economy and conduct politics to innovate and invest, raise its productivity and do much more to ensure there are incentives for individuals who excel. We just do not have to put up with the bigger and intrusive policies in our lives. We do not need to put up with it! Citizens should not put up with the socialists of all the parties who come with a blueprint that requires a central direction of the economy.

The Commitment to Ghana is a bold, recognition of the concept of property rights to what is broken in our country. Indeed, the poor should reject the politicians that come in 2024 with the same old zombie parade of bad policies that have caused the damage to our economy.

To the uninformed mind, property rights is not just the registration of land and buildings. The system of property rights includes law and order, an independent judiciary and a police force that is free and fair.

Thus, our message is to those who by force of their intellect are able to apprehend the principles of independence and wealth creation. We call them the remnants. They work in the informal economy, unorganized, inarticulate, each one struggling along as best he or she can. They need to kick against the fiscally unsustainable path our politicians are leading us.

Presently, our debt has reached such high levels there is no level of growth that can solve the problem entirely. The dismal state of the nation is squashing people’s potential to prosper. Reforming entitlement programs or cutting spending would be the right policies to address the problem, but the political chance of both parties implementing these unpopular policies is extremely small.

Nonetheless, there must be a liberty-friendly, pro-growth approach moving forward, removing government barriers that have crippled wealth creation.

To achieve growth, our politicians should do three things: encourage competition and do away with top-down planning, prioritise monetary policy, and prevent partisans and cronies from capturing and corrupting the market process. This should include cutting government spending, taxes, and regulations to help quickly balance the budget, to stop fuelling government’s destructive policies.

Presently, Ghanaians cut to the core but the liberty tree has not yet collapsed. Defeating the socialists in our midst is in the end a powerful wake-up call for free people of character, conviction, and courage to stand up against the collective madness and together, pull Ghana away from terrible progressive policies.

Making Ghana a government-dependent and economically unfree country will not restore Ghana as the black star of freedom it once was, and must be again.

Algeria to continue with perfect start as they host Niger

0
Algerian striker, Islam Slimani

Algeria will be aiming to continue their perfect start to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Thursday as they welcome Niger to the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

For the visitors, securing a first AFCON qualifying victory will be the major target off the back of two share of the spoils from as many outings so far.

The Desert Warriors have opened up a four-point lead at the top of their AFCON qualifying group after just two rounds of matches. Having lost just once in their last 20 matches on home turf dating back to March 2021, Thursday’s hosts are well-placed to secure yet another impressive result in front of their fans.

Niger Republic played out a 1-1 stalemate against the Cranes of Uganda in the teams’ matchday two encounter at the St. Mary’s Stadium-Kitende on June 8.

Still without a victory away from home since 2021, Thursday’s visitors have it all to do in what is set to be yet another daunting assignment on enemy territory.

Algerian striker Islam Slimani will be looking to continue his rich vein of form in front of goal after scoring six goals in his last six games at club level.

Slimani, who is also his country’s record goalscorer with 41, has the opportunity to extend his five-goal lead at the top of the all-time scoring charts

With the quality they boast all over the pitch, Algeria are huge favourites to come away with all three points, and coupled with the added advantage of playing on home turf, we are backing them to get the job done in emphatic fashion.

Chris Hughton begins as coach of Ghana with clash against Angola

0
Chris Hughton

Chris Hughton begins his stint as head coach of Ghana with a mouth-watering Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Angola at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday.
The Irishman, who boasts a wealth of experience under his belt, will hope to hit the ground running as the Black Stars begin their quest for a 10th consecutive AFCON appearance.

The four-time AFCON champions kicked off their qualifying campaign with a 3-0 thrashing of Madagascar in June 2022, but quickly ran out of steam as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Central African Republic four days later.

Like Thursday’s hosts, Angola have also picked up four points from a possible six in their AFCON qualifying journey so far, only dropping points in a cagey 1-1 draw with Madagascar back in June 2022.

Ghana and Angola are currently separated only by goal difference at the top of Group E, making this midweek contest nicely poised and a potential decider in their race for a spot in Ivory Coast.

However, the Black Stars hold a slight edge heading into the game, given that they have won each of their last six home matches across all competitions since a goalless draw with Nigeria in March 2022.

Ghana Team

For his first game in charge, Hughton has called up a star-studded 25-man list, including skipper and Nottingham Forest striker Andre Ayew, who boasts 24 goals in 113 appearances to date.

3Black StarsThomas Partey, who has been pivotal in Arsenal’s Premier League title charge, has also been summoned, alongside a host of England-based attackers like Jordan AyewKamaldeen Sulemana and Antoine Semenyo.

In defence, Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Tariq Lamptey will be hoping to team up with league rivals Daniel Amartey and Mohammed Salisu, while Mohammed Kudus, who has caught the eye in the Eredivisie, will certainly be one to keep an eye on.

Angola Team

Meanwhile, Angola have named an experience-rich squad for their crunch fixtures, including 37-year-old goalkeeper Hugo Marques, who has made 18 appearances since his debut in August 2011.

Angola coach Goncalves

Dala, has scored two of the Black Antelopes’ three goals in the qualifiers and the Al-Wakrah striker, who now has 14 international goals to his name, will be tasked with delivering in attack alongside former Leeds United man Helder Costa.

Goncalves has also given room for a few new faces, including the likes of Pedro AgostinhoBruno Paz, and Casa Pia midfielder Beni Mukendi, who will be hoping to put on the nation’s colours for the very first time.

Prediction

Ghana head into the midweek clash with a star-studded squad capable of comfortably getting the job done. While Angola are no pushovers, the Black Stars should be too difficult to handle and so we see Hughton kicking off his reign at the helm of affairs on a high.

Ghana possible starting lineup:
Ati; Lamptey, Amartey, Salisu, Mensah; Partey, Samed; Sulemana, Kudus, J Ayew; Williams

Angola possible starting lineup:
Marques; Buatu, Gaspar, Ndefe, Afonso; Fredy, Show, Luz; Dala, Costa, Papel

According to him, Abdul Karim Lakoh is a Sierra Leonean, Seth Dzamesi claimed to be a businessman and resides at Tantra Hills, Emmanuel Dwamena, is a Customs Officer residing at Kasoa and George Asamoah who is at large.

He said in the month of March 2023, the complainants went to Sierra Leone to buy Gold and Abdul was among the people who sold the gold to the complaints.

According him, Abdul promised the complainants that he would assist them to transport the precious minerals from Sierra Leone through Ghana to Dubai.

Therefore, on March 16, 2023 the complainants and Abdul arrived in Ghana at the Kotoka International Airport with Sky Airline, with their personal belongings, including the 75 kilos of gold bars.

According to the prosecutor, when the complainants landed at Kotoka International Airport, Abdul managed to come out from the arrival hall and contacted George, who is now at large, on cell phone 0269736510.

He added that George came to the Airport in a black Range Rover vehicle to pick Abdul out of the arrival hall.

DSP Kesse said Abdul Karim Lakoh and George Asamoah also met Seth Dzamesi who was using customs branded Toyota Hilux pick-up with registration number GX 8386-17 and stole the bag containing the 75kg of the gold bars and kept it in the Toyota pickup.

He added that whilst the complainants were at the transit arrival hall, an Immigration officer sneaked the complainants out of the arrival hall and handed them over to Emmanuel Dwamena, the Custom Officer at the departure hall.

Emmanuel also drove the complaints to a supposed customs bonded warehouse with House No. 18, Shamo Kwei Avenue, at East Legon, in Accra, to meet Seth Dzamesi.

The prosecutor informed the court that Seth, who posed as Customs Officer took charge of the bag containing the 75 kilos of gold bars and sent it to his office.

DSP Kesse said Seth Dzamesi, after allegedly taking possession of the gold, forced the complainants out of his office.

Emmanuel drove the complainants back to Airport and abandoned them at the Airport. The court further heard that at the Airport, Abdul attempted to escape but he was arrested and handed to Airport Police for investigation.

The prosecuting officer added that further background checks on Abdul indicates that the whole gold scandal started in Sierra Leone with the help of Emmanuel and George, who happen to be their Ghanaian accomplices.

As a result, DSP Kesse stated that accused persons succeeded in stealing the gold bars from Kotoka International Airport. He added that Abdul, Seth and Emmanuel admitted the offence in their caution statement that they hatched the plan from Sierra Leone, with the assistance of Ghanaian accomplices to steal the gold.

The court was told that efforts are being made to arrest their accomplices.

Prez to EC: don’t be cowed into submission

President Akufo-Addo and the newly appointed EC officials

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has encouraged the Electoral Commission (EC) not to allow itself to be cowed into submission.

According to the President, political actors would definitely be on the neck of the Commission with one demand or the other, as well as attempt to pooh pooh its decisions.

However, he says these should not scare the independent referee. “Remember now more than ever, that every decision you take will be scrutinised to the letter. That, however, should not scare you and indeed, let no one try to cow you into submission,” he said.

The President gave the encouragement on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Jubilee House, where he swore into office three persons to fill vacant positions at the Commission.

President Akufo-Addo’s words of encouragement to the EC come at a time when the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is bent on blocking the EC’s proposed Constitutional Instrument (CI) to make the Ghana Card the sole document for proof of nationality to register as a voter.

As such, the party’s hierarchy has issued a stern warning to all its 136 parliamentarians never to miss a sitting till the last day of this month. As an incentive, the party has also suspended campaigns in all the constituencies ahead of their primaries.

QUALITY WORK

Addressing the EC on Monday, the President said it is the quality of its work that would reassure the Ghana people that the democratic system of government they chose would be properly nurtured.

The assurance, he emphasised, would be embedded in an electoral system that allows their voices to be plainly and loudly heard.

Having intimated to the Commission that Ghanaians would not spare them any chance, he added that on the contrary, the EC should let the expectation of the citizens spur them on to great heights.

He reiterated to the EC that the counting, transmission, collation and declaration of election results should not be more important than the civic right of citizens to cast their votes.

NO HONEYMOON

President Akufo-Addo after administering the three key oaths (of Office, Allegiance and Secrecy) to the three new electoral commissioners, told them they may find no honeymoon period.

He reminded them that they have come to office some 21 months to the 2024 general election and at a time when Ghana seeks to entrench her credentials as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

“As you begin work, you will find no honeymoon period, neither will you be afforded the chance to settle in to your new responsibilities. I have, nevertheless, confidence in you and in your abilities to surmount the hurdles before you,” he remarked.

NEW COMMISSIONERS

The three new members appointed to the EC are; Salima Ahmed Tijani, Rev Akua Ofori Boateng and Dr Peter Appiahene.

Their appointment is in line with Article 43 (1 and 2) of the 1992 constitution which states that, “there shall be an Electoral Commission which shall consist of a chairman, two deputy chairmen, and four other members. The members of the commission shall be appointed by the President under Article 70 of this constitution.”

They replace Mrs. Hajia Sa-Adatu Maida, Mr Ebenezer Aggrey-Fynn and Mrs. Rebecca Kabukie Adjalo who have all retired.

They have, therefore, joined Mrs. Jean Mensa as Chairperson, Mr. Samuel Tettey as Deputy Chairman for Operations, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairman for Corporate and                         Ms. Adwoa Asuama Abrefa as Commissioner

HUMBLED

Dr Appiahene, in his response on behalf of the three new electoral commissioners expressed their gratitude to the president for their appointment and to the Council of State for supporting their nomination.

“We are greatly humbled, honoured, motivated and we finally see this appointment as a sense of duty,” Dr Appiahene said.

“We also accept this appointment in the symbolism of a fresh journey ahead of us, a journey to meet the high expectation of the various stakeholders, especially the over 31 million Ghanaians.

“We are aware of the massive responsibilities and tasks that come with it. We want to state that we are poised, prepared to deliver and to contribute to the development of our democracy, especially in this digital era,” he added.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle Constituency and Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has filed his nomination form to contest the Ellembelle parliamentary seat.
The MP, and a crowd of supporters, defied the Saturday downpour to file his nomination to contest the Ellembelle seat for the fifth time at the party’s office, amidst pomp and pageantry.
Armah-Kofi Buah first won the Ellembelle seat in 2008 after defeating Freddy Blay, the immediate National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NP), who was then the MP for the area on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Speaking to newsmen after filling his nomination form, the Deputy Minority Leader indicated that his motivation to contest the seat was borne out of the call from his constituents to do so in other to continue the good works he has begun in the constituency.

MP Buah used the opportunity to ‘spit fire’ on what he described as abysmal performance by the ruling government in the area of the economy, health and infrastructural development amongst others.
“The last seven years of governance has been a disaster. Almost every development project we’ve tried has come to a stop. I believe that I have earned the right to be in a position to help the District to develop, so that is why I’m running again.

“Look at the enthusiasm and the support base and I believe the people of Ellembelle want me to continue the good works I have been doing and I’m proud to serve them”, he said.
Though the Deputy Minority Leader is likely to face stiff competition from two other aspirants in the race to be elected on the ticket of the umbrella party, the Ellembelle NDC constituency Chairman and other executives told newsmen they were supporting Armah-Kofi Buah because of how well he has changed the face of Ellembelle since he became an MP.
In a related development, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has also filed her nomination form to contest the  May 13,  2023 primary on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The nomination form was filed by her Manager, Dr. Francis Horbah, who was accompanied by some Jomoro NDC Constituency executives at the party office.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who is seeking re-election for the second time is facing fierce competition from three other members of the party, who are yet to file their nomination forms.
The Manager, in an interview with news men indicated “we have now filed and we are waiting for the vetting process. We promise to do our best and give the maximum support she needs, thereby making her win one more time to be able to continue her good work for the people of Jomoro”.
Dr. Horbah expressed gratitude to Madam Affo-Toffey for not disappointing the constituency.
“Hon Dorcas, thank you for not disappointing us. We are proud of you. We know your second term is protected and rest assured. May God bless and protect you and give you enough strength. We can’t wait to have you lead and win you second term”.
The Assembly Member for Bonyere Electoral Area, who was there to support the submission of the form, spoke on behalf of the rest of the assembly members and pledged their support to the MP.
“On behalf of the assembly members, we declare our full support to Dorcas Affo-Toffey for we know she is the hope of Jomoro.”
