You talk anyhow because you’ve relocated- Stonebwoy replies Kelvin Taylor

Kelvin Taylor and Stonebwoy

Ghanaian dancehall musician and Bhim Nation president, Stonebwoy has subtly fired back at controversial media personality, Kelvin Taylor.

This comes after Kelvin Taylor rubbished the musician’s collaboration with American rapper, Rick Ross.

It all started when the US rapper, Rick Ross divulged that he wanted to have a collaboration with the Bhim Nation President and other African musicians.

In a video that flew across social media platforms, Rick Ross named Stonebwoy as one of the lucky musicians to be put on his massive African-themed album.

He stated categorically that “artists like Stonebwoy from Ghana, Asake from Nigeria, and Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania would all be on the record”.

Soon after Rick Ross made this pronouncement, he was seen in an Instagram live chat with Stonebwoy where Stonebwoy told him he would love to have a collaboration with Rihana and Taylor Swift.

Upon seeing the news, Kelvin Taylor in a recent episode of his show rubbished the collaboration, saying that this is not an achievement.

According to him, Stonebwoy could have been happy or reacted this way if it were a better and more relevant American musician than Rick Ross.

Kelvin Taylor said that Rick Ross is no longer relevant in the entertainment industry in America, so he is trying to use African musicians to revive his dead career.

He added that had it not been for the support of Lil Wayne among other great American musicians, Rick Ross would have been a nobody.

Even though Stonebwoy has never replied to Kelvin Taylor’s insults before, this time, he has subtly fired back at him.

Taking to his Snapchat, Stonebwoy has said that because Kelvin Taylor has relocated to Abroad, he talks anyhow to Ghanaians.

He questioned how the media personality would have lived or done if he had been born Abroad.

He also advised him to be humble because regardless of everything he is still a Ghanaian.

Burna Boy performing at the 2024 Grammys

Nigerian superstar, Burna Boy’s performance at the 2024 Grammys has been placed number 6 on Billboard.

At his debut performance at the Grammy Awards this year, he performed ‘Sittin’ on Top of the World’ while accompanied by Brandy and 21 Savage.

During his production, he put an impressive performance with an infectious energy and charisma.

Billboard in a statement, said; “For the first Afrobeats performance at the Grammys, Burna Boy pulled out all the stops. Backed by Brandy’s gorgeous vocals and 21 Savage’s detached, confident cool, Burna sang “Sittin’ on Top of the World” and demonstrated that is precisely where he belongs.

“The lush, expansive stage — depicting a residential city block – and clever costume design (the colour red tied all three performers together, despise their disparate styles) brought to mind an MGM golden era musical — and truthfully, the Nigerian star’s infectious energy and easy charm wouldn’t seem out of place in a Hollywood musical,” Billboard wrote.

However, South African singer Tyla stole the show as she secured a triumphant win at the 2024 Grammy Awards, clinching the ‘Best African Music Performance’ award on Sunday.

The 22-year-old outshone notable Nigerian contenders, including Davido, Asake and Burna Boy.

The 66th Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony happened at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, the United States of America.

Abusive marriage is not a sign of love – Kwabena Kwabena to women

Kwabena Kwabena

Highlife Artiste, Kwabena Kwabena has advised any women who take abuse in marriage as a sign of love to rethink.

According to him, ladies should not hesitate to leave a relationship if their man assaults them or even attempts to assault them.

In an interview with Accra FM, the ‘Asor’ hitmaker said that ladies should not tolerate any form of physical abuse from their partners, as that is not a sign of love.

“If someone who says he loves you physically abuses you, that is not love. The moment your man lifts his hand to hit you, please leave such a relationship. Even if you are married, if your husband beats you, pack your bags and go back to your father’s house,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena said that he would also not tolerate any form of abuse meted out to his daughter if she got into a relationship.

“If my daughter is getting married, I will tell her husband one thing: he either takes care of her or leaves her alone. The moment I hear that she is going through abuse, I would personally go and pick her up from her husband’s house and bring her home,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena also condemned men who engage in any form of domestic violence, saying that they “have to bow down their heads in shame.”

His comments come amid a wider discussion on domestic abuse in Ghana.

This particular provision was made in 2020 Manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the creative industry.

“We will build a digital platform for artists to make their products available to the global market,” the NPP stated.

During his lecture, another promise Dr. Bawumia made was to build on the ‘Year of Return,’ ‘Beyond the Return’ and ‘December in Ghana.’

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is under investigation as part of a probe into an alleged attempted coup to keep him in power, according to one of his former aides.

Four people were arrested and 33 search warrants executed Thursday as part of the probe, Brazilian Federal Police said in a statement.

“On Thursday (8/2), the [Brazil] Federal Police launched Operation Tempus Veritatis to investigate the criminal organization that acted in an attempt to stage a coup d’état and abolish the Democratic Rule of Law, in order to gain political advantage by keeping the then President of the Republic in power,” the statement read.

A further 48 precautionary measures were also enforced, including a ban on contact with other people under investigation; a ban on leaving the country, with an order to surrender passports within 24 hours; and a ban on exercising public functions, said police.

Police have not named any of those under investigation, but Fabio Wajngarten, a lawyer representing Bolsonaro, confirmed that the former president is among their number in a post on X.

Bolsonaro will surrender his passport “in compliance with today’s decisions,” Wajngarten added.

Azerbaijan presidential vote marred by irregularities

Azerbaijan incumbent president Ilham Aliyev

Election observers from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have raised “serious questions” about the validity of Azerbaijan’s presidential election, which saw incumbent Ilham Aliyev secure a fifth term with more than 90 percent of the vote.

The election was “not competitive” and “was held in a restrictive environment”, OSCE monitors told a news conference in the capital, Baku, on Thursday, a day after the poll. They said that “recent arrests of critical journalists have hindered the media from operating freely”.

There was no immediate comment from the government.

With more than 93 percent of the ballots counted, Aliyev secured more than 92 percent of votes, the head of the Central Election Commission, Mazahir Panahov, said on Thursday.

The OSCE noted “issues of secrecy of the vote, a lack of safeguards against multiple voting, indications of ballot stuffing”, raising “serious questions about whether ballots were counted and reported honestly”.

Aliyev’s time in power has been marked by the introduction of increasingly strict laws that curb political debate, as well as the arrests of opposition figures and independent journalists.

Polls close in Pakistan marred by internet cut

Pakistan elections

Polls have closed in Pakistan after the authorities suspended mobile calls and data while millions voted for a new government in a controversial election. The interior ministry said incidents of terrorism made the measure necessary. The election comes almost two years after the previous prime minister, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, was ousted in a no-confidence vote.

Three-time PM Nawaz Sharif was on the ballot in what many analysts say is Pakistan’s least credible election yet.

Khan, jailed on corruption charges last year, is barred from standing and his party called the internet cut a “cowardly act”.

It is unclear how soon results will be announced but they must be released within two weeks of election day. Polling experts were already forecasting a low turnout, which it’s thought would hamper the PTI’s chances. The suspension of mobile services made it harder for voters to find their polling stations.

Both calls and data services were suspended just 10 minutes before voting started, although wifi networks still appeared to be working. The country is on high alert, with a heavy security presence at polling stations across the country.

Putin challenger barred from Russia’s election

Boris Nadezhdin has vowed to challenge the election commission

Russia’s election commission has rejected anti-war challenger Boris Nadezhdin as a candidate in next month’s presidential vote.

Mr Nadezhdin has been relatively critical of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale war in Ukraine when few dissenting voices have been tolerated in Russia.

Election authorities claimed more than 15% of the signatures he submitted with his candidate application were flawed.

He had tried to challenge this, but the commission rejected his bid.

Refusing to give up, Mr Nadezhdin, 60, said on social media that he would challenge the decision in Russia’s Supreme Court.

The Central Election Commission said that of the 105,000 signatures submitted by Mr Nadezhdin, more than 9,000 were invalid and they cited a variety of violations.

That left 95,587 names, meaning he was just short of the 100,000 required signatures to register as a candidate, commission member Andrei Shutov said.

US drone strike kills Iran-backed militia leader in Baghdad

Drone strike kills Iran-backed militia leader

A senior commander of an Iran-backed militia has been killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad.

A leader of Kataib Hezbollah and two of his guards were in a vehicle when it was targeted in the east of the Iraqi capital. All three of them died.

The Pentagon said the commander was responsible for directing attacks on American forces in the region.

The US has linked the militia to a drone attack in Jordan that killed three US troops last month.

In the wake of that attack, Kataib Hezbollah said it was suspending attacks on American troops to prevent “embarrassment” to the Iraqi government.

Wednesday night’s drone raid happened in Baghdad’s Mashtal neighbourhood, sparking several loud explosions.

It was a precise strike on a moving vehicle in a busy street and the car was reduced to a fiery wreck. One of the victims has been identified as Abu Baqir al-Saadi, a senior commander in Kataib Hezbollah.

US Central Command (Centcom) said the attack at 21:30 local time (18:30 GMT) had killed the “commander responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on US forces in the region”. Credit: bbc.com

ECOWAS holds emergency session over Senegal election crisis, members exit

ECOWAS emergency session

West African foreign ministers are holding emergency talks on Thursday in Nigeria’s capital Abuja to discuss the political crisis in Senegal and disputes with military rulers in three other member states.

The extraordinary session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) follows President Macky Sall’s sudden decision to delay elections in Senegal, just a week after Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger declared they were quitting the bloc.

The ECOWAS Mediation & Security Council said ministers would gather to “discuss current security and political issues in the region”.

It remains unclear whether representatives from the four countries being discussed are attending.

ECOWAS has urged Senegal – one of its most stable member states – to return to its election timetable, but critics have already questioned the group’s sway over increasingly defiant member states.

The turmoil has also brought the almost 50-year-old bloc’s broader role into doubt, especially after its warning of military intervention in Niger last year fizzled out with no sign the country’s toppled president is closer to being restored.
