Nigerian petroleum product marketers have increased the price of motor spirit two consecutive times in less than one week.

DAILY POST’s correspondent observed that Empire Energy filling station, Ranoil and other petrol marketers in the Federal Capital Territory have adjusted their fuel pumps twice since last week.

The Empire Energy filling station in Gwarimpa first hiked its pump from N910 to N955 per litre last week. DAILY POST observed that the filling station has effected another petrol pump price hike to N975 as of Monday.

On the part of Ranoil outlets in Gwarimpa, Kado, and Lugbe, petrol was first increased to N935 from N905 per litre last week, but the price had grown to N955 per litre as of Monday morning.

Earlier, DAILY POST reported that Dangote Refinery’s retail partner, MRS, increased its fuel pump price to between N925 and N945 in Lagos and Abuja.

Similarly, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited also jerked up its retail fuel price to N945 and N915 in Abuja and Lagos.

Reacting, the President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association, Abubakar Maigandi, blamed the knee-jerk petrol price hikes on the surge in global crude oil prices as a result of Israel-Iran strikes.

DAILY POST reports that at the weekend, the United States announced that it successfully bombed Iran’s three nuclear sites, resulting in a further rise in global crude oil prices by three percent as of Monday morning.

We’re Making Farming More Attractive To Youths, Tinubu Says

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that his administration is fulfilling its promise to Nigerians to make Nigeria a global powerhouse in agriculture.

Tinubu stated this during the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja on Monday.

He said the reforms being introduced by his administration were aimed at making farming “more sexy” to young Nigerians.

“We have here over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 industrial-grade land preparation bulldozers, 12 fully equipped mobile workshops, and 9,000-plus specialised farming implements.

“This equipment, when deployed will empower mechanisation and service providers, create job opportunities, and make farming easy and more sexy for our young ones.

“You don’t have to use an 18th-century method for a 21st-century agricultural farming implement,” he said.

The President also said that the Federal Governemnt was working with international partners to empower the youths with skills in modern agriculture for financial self-dependence.

He explained that his administration’s strategy encompassed year-round cultivation, drastically reducing Nigeria’s historical vulnerabilities and seasonal shortages.

He said, “We have friends across the world. We have Belarus committed to a programme that will empower our youths, teach them how to do things, get them off the street, empower them in technology, review mechanisation, and empower them in machine repairs and fabrication.

“The allocation of this equipment throughout the country will do a lot. Given our nation’s arable land and favourable climate that we have, we must seize the opportunity to achieve complete agricultural independence and food sovereignty.”

He, however, urged the beneficiaries of the programme to put the equipment to good use.

“To all stakeholders receiving this equipment, deploy with maximum efficiency. We will work with you; we will supervise you at various locations and we will hold you accountable.

“Let history record this day as the beginning of Nigeria’s agricultural renaissance where modern technology meets our farmers’ legendary resilience to create unprecedented prosperity,” Tinubu added.

He also commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its proactive effort in addressing the food crisis and maintaining stability in Nigeria’s food system. Credit: channelstv.com

African Institutions unite to forge home-grown economic and governance solutions

GIMPA

The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), in collaboration with the National School of Government (South Africa) and the Kenya School of Government, has initiated a high-level policy advancement process aimed at strengthening economic governance and fostering inclusive growth across the African continent.

These three prominent African institutions commenced their deliberations at the “Economic Governance – Policy, Practices and Integration for Inclusive Growth in Africa” conference, recently held in Accra.

The event brought together government officials and academics from Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya, marking the beginning of a crucial discourse to harmonise economic and governance policies across the continent.

Ms. Pinky Kekana, Deputy Minister for the Department of Public Service and Administration for South Africa, emphasised that addressing policy bottlenecks on the African continent would require a collective effort from individual African countries.

She highlighted the importance of inter-country learning, where nations could share best practices and effective policies to engender economic growth and good governance.

The Deputy Minister underscored the need for Africa to develop homegrown solutions to its socio-economic challenges.

She stressed that multinational companies operating on the continent must partner with indigenous companies to facilitate knowledge and expertise sharing.

“We must ensure, as a continent, that big companies partner with small homegrown companies, so that not only do they share expertise, but they also help small and medium companies to become bigger. It’s a policy of the government of South Africa that can be emulated by other countries on the continent,” she stated.

Professor Samuel K. Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, acknowledged the impact of global events on Africa and stressed the need for indigenous policy interventions to minimise these effects.

He advocated for an African-centred policy framework to address the continent’s socio-economic policies, recognising its unique challenges and opportunities.

“We have our internal issues to deal with, and they are not considered global problems, or they are not considered problems for others to deal with. And I strongly agree with that notion, that our problems are our problems, and perhaps we should be the ones solving our problems. “

We should not be dependent on others to tell us what to do and how to resolve our problems,” he said.

The Rector noted that the forum provided a vital opportunity for African countries to collectively address regional issues and challenges presented by the global landscape.

Tiwa Savage credits ex-husband for sexy transformation

Teebillz and Tiwa Savage

Nigerian Afrobeats queen, Tiwa Savage has credited her ex-husband and former manager, Tunji Balogun, popularly known as Teebillz, as the motivation behind her transformation into a sexy diva.

Tiwa said this while featuring on the recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast by Joey Akan.

She revealed that she was a tomboy at the start of her career, always “wearing baggy jeans and t-shirt.”

Talking about Teebillz’ influence on her appearance, she revealed that he pushed her to hit the gym and lose weight so that she could improve her appeal in an industry that was craving an increased level of sexy.

She said, “The sexiness in my 2024 single ‘Wanted’ music video felt groundbreaking at that time. Because I just got married and there’s a lot of press saying, ‘She’s not going to be desirable anymore. She’s finished. Her time is gone. There are new people on the scene.’ So, I was just like, let me do something crazy.

“That was me being rebellious. I was like, Oh! You guys think I’m not sexy anymore? To be honest, that wasn’t the aim, to just try to be sexy. Because naturally, I’m not. Naturally, I’m a tomboy. But again, TJ [Tunji Balogun] saw that there was a gap in the market and he was just like, you’ve to lose weight, you’ve to go to the gym, you’ve to start waxing your eyebrows. You’ve to start wearing wigs. He literally changed my whole appearance. I was not like that in L.A. when he met me.”

“I used to be a songwriter in the studio wearing baggy jeans and a t-shirt. And he literally changed that. I don’t think that he thought there was going to be a backlash. He was just like, let’s give them the African Rihanna or Beyoncé. I was like, okay, let’s go ahead. And we came back to Nigeria, but my fashion sense attracted criticism. Then, I ran back to L.A.

“I was really bad. I would go to shows and I would be waiting backstage and they wouldn’t call me because maybe the governor’s wife had said I can’t come up or they’d say, make sure you don’t wear any of those your skimpy dresses. I’m not making this up. There was a time, ‘Love Me’ was banned on TV. I was discouraged. I remembered Bizzle called me and told me ladies were loving me, so I came back to Nigeria. I’ve told the story where I went to all the labels and they all said no, Storm Records, Mo’Hits, Banky W’s EME, everyone.”

Tee Billz and Tiwa got married on November 23, 2013. They welcomed their son, Jamal, two years later in 2015 before officially parting ways in 2018 following allegations of infidelity and drug addiction by both parties.

Black Sherif defends huge streaming numbers

Black Sherif

Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has strongly rejected accusations that he manipulates streaming numbers to boost his digital presence.

In an emphatic rebuttal, the Second Sermon and Soja hitmaker described the allegations as “baseless and deeply insulting”, asserting that his achievements are the result of genuine hard work and artistic authenticity.

Currently enjoying widespread success following the release of his sophomore album Iron Boy, Black Sherif’s influence on the global music scene continues to soar.

At present, six songs from Iron Boy occupy the top six positions on both Boomplay and Apple Music Ghana’s Top 100 charts. The album also made an impressive debut on international platforms—landing at number six on Spotify UK’s Top Debut Albums and entering the Billboard World Albums Chart at number 10.

In addition, Iron Boy has accumulated over 80 million streams on Audiomack since its release.

Despite these notable achievements, some detractors have suggested that Black Sherif’s rapid rise might be driven by artificial methods.

“Honestly, that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. My success is 100 per cent organic. I put my blood, sweat and tears into every note, every lyric and every performance.”

He went on to credit his growing fanbase to “hard work, consistency, and staying true to himself”, rather than any form of manipulation.

Samini breaks silence on GTA office visit brouhaha

Samini

Dancehall star, Samini has addressed the buzz around his recent trip to the Ghana Tourism Authority office.

In an interview on Joy Prime monitored by The Chronicle, he dismissed claims that his visit secured him political perks.

Calling out a small but vocal group of critics who insist on unwavering party loyalty, Samini said free speech and freedom of association matter more than blind allegiance.

“If a party falls out of favour, you should be able to step away and explain why,” he noted.

He explained that his courtesy call was purely professional.

“I went to introduce my project to Abeiku Santana. I did the same with KOD and tried to meet Rex Omar,” Samini said.

He added that a miscaptioned social media post by a footsoldier had blown the visit out of proportion.

“That caption suggested I was invited and then given a slice of bread as a gift,” he recalled, “implying that when your party is in power you cut up the bread and pass it only to supporters.”

Samini reminded viewers that the GTA serves all Ghanaians, not just political insiders.

“Tourism is open to everyone. Anyone in tourism should feel free to walk in and do business,” he insisted.

His straight talk arrives amid a heated debate over politics in Ghana’s arts and culture scene. A vocal champion of unity across music, media and tourism, Samini is also gearing up to release his eighth studio album, ORIGIN8A, later this year.

By confronting the rumours head on, he underscored the importance of inclusivity in national institutions. His message is clear: Ghana’s creativity and tourism must rise above politics and offer a place at the table for every citizen.

Police sealed the picture sque village of Goult after the shooting

A bride has been shot dead on her wedding night in a village near the south-eastern French city of Avignon after masked gunmen opened fire.

One suspected attacker was also killed in an apparent exchange of fire, and the groom and a 13-year-old child were seriously wounded during the incident in the village of Goult.

Two people were arrested following a search involving dozens of officers and a helicopter on Sunday, police sources told French media.

No information about the suspects has been released, but reports say the violence may be linked to drug-related score-settling.

At about 04:30 (02:30 GMT) on Sunday, the bride, 27, and groom, 25, were leaving the wedding venue in the village hall when attackers wearing balaclavas fired on the party, AFP news agency says.

One of the gunmen was killed in an exchange of fire, Avignon prosecutor Florence Galtier said. Three surviving attackers, who had arrived by car, fled on foot, she added.

After the arrest of two suspects on Sunday, police are now actively looking for the third, Le Figaro newspaper says.

A total of 28 people were present in the hall at the time of the attack, according to police. One woman was also wounded in the incident.

The hall was booked in March “for a wedding by people who don’t live in the town”, local Mayor Didier Perello said.
