“It is going to sound hypocritic but… I did so much sh*t in my life. I had my nipples out, my panties out.

In August 2023, the couple welcomed their second son, Riot Ross.

Ghanaians love political parties more than the wellbeing of the country – Kofi Kinaata

Kofi Kinaata

Music star Kofi Kinaata, has recently voiced his apprehension regarding the prevailing political mindset among Ghanaians.

According to him, citizens prioritise their loyalty to political parties to the detriment of the country’s well-being.

The Confessions hitmaker lamented the current situation, making it difficult for people to voice their concerns about ongoing challenges for fear of being attacked and wrongly labelled with political affiliations.

“Over the years, we have been sweet-talked to by politicians in this country, but nothing happens, and there is no change. For me, I’ve given up,” Graphic Online quoted him as saying.

He elaborated on the challenges of addressing issues due to the deep-rooted partisan divide.

“The people are making things difficult, so we cannot address issues because someone thinks he is for party A, so whatever you’re saying goes against party A, so don’t say. He is for party B, so he will still stand for his party even if he’s dying. People tend to love their party more than the country, so everything is in a mess.”

Kinaata’s remarks highlight the concerning trend of excessive partisan loyalty, which often overshadows the broader national interests and hinders constructive dialogue on pressing issues.

Despite being approached by various political figures, including members of the Movement for Change, the vocal rapper revealed that he has no intention of entering politics.

Lagos workers earn minimum of N70,000 since January – Sanwo-Olu

0
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed that workers have been enjoying an additional N35,000 wage allowance since January.

This is as he revealed the state government will soon roll out a new minimum wage scheme.

The governor stated that those who are currently earning a minimum wage of N35,000 or more now take home a salary of N70,000 or above since the beginning of the year.

“The civil servant and all public officers in Lagos know that since January, we have continued to pay the wage allowance of a minimum of N35,000 over and above what they were earning before.

“What this means is that people that are earning a minimum of N35,000 or more before are now earning over N70,00. That is what they have been enjoying since January.

“So it is important for people to know that we make these things very clear that this government has doubled up to ensure that at this difficult time, it has not left the citizens on their own,” Sanwo-Olu said at a state function on Thursday.

The governor while giving an update on the intervention the state embarked on to ameliorate the current economic hardship,  said his administration will distribute food items to 500,000 households in the state through unions and local governments.

Speaking on the ‘Ounje Eko’ initiative, where food items are sold at discounted prices, the governor said, “We created 59 makeshift markets outside of the regular markets out of our 57 local government and local council development areas and made it Sunday-Sunday market.”

119 Inmates Escape As Rainstorm Destroys Suleja Correctional Centre Fence

0

One hundred and nineteen inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, in Niger State after a rainstorm damaged part of the facility late Wednesday.

“A heavy downpour that lasted for several hours on the night of Wednesday, 24 April 2024 has wreaked havoc on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, Niger State, as well as surrounding buildings, destroying a part of the custodial facility, including its perimeter fence, giving way to the escape of a total of one hundred and nineteen (119) inmates of the facility,” the Deputy Superintendent of Corrections Command Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, AS Duza, said in a Thursday morning statement.

But he said efforts have been ramped up to recapture the inmates with 13 of them so far retaken into custody.

“The Service has immediately activated its recapturing mechanisms, and in conjunction with sister security agencies have so far recaptured 10 fleeing inmates and taken them into custody, while we are in hot chase to recapture the rest,” he said.

According to him, the facility was built during the colonial era and is old and weak. He, however, said efforts are on to bring the facilities up to date.

“This is evidenced in the ongoing construction of six (6) number of 3000-capacity ultra-modern custodial centres in all the geo-political zones in Nigeria as well as the ongoing reconstruction and renovation of existing ones,” he said, asking the public to provide information and report “any suspicious movement to the nearest security agency”.

The heavy rain damaged parts of the building and exposed the facility’s inner fence protecting one of the cells where inmates were kept.

A resident of Suleja town BabangidaTuraki had told Channels Television that the rains pulled down a part of the fence undergoing repairs.

He said a combined security reinforcement returned some of the escaping prisoners. According to him, the team has been sent to strategic outlets and black spots of Suleja town to arrest the fleeing inmates.

Normalcy has since returned to Suleja town while a search is still ongoing to recover some of the prisoners.

The development comes as the Federal Government ramps up efforts to decongest the country’s correctional centres. In November, it said there are plans to free 4, 068 inmates nationwide.

According to the Minister of Interior OlubunmiTunji-Ojo, the programme is targeted at indigent inmates who cannot afford to pay their fines.

He said the Federal Government has raised N585 million to be used for the payment of fines to secure the release of 4,068 inmates across the federation.

Real Madrid hope to extend lead at the top as they visit Real Sociedad

0
Real Madrid players

Real Madrid will be aiming to move 14 points clear at the top of the La Liga table when they continue their domestic campaign away to Real Sociedad on Friday night.

Carlo Ancelotti‘s side are currently in a commanding position at the summit, sitting 11 points clear of second-placed Barcelona with six games left, while Real Sociedad are sixth, three points ahead of seventh-placed Real Betis in the battle to secure Europa League football for the 2024-25 campaign.

Real Sociedad finished fourth in La Liga last season, but they are highly unlikely to play in the Champions League again next term, as they are currently sixth in the table, 10 points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.

The Basque outfit are instead locked in a battle for a Europa League spot, sitting sixth, three points clear of seventh-placed Real Betis. As it stands, Imanol Alguacil‘s side will qualify for the group stage of the 2024-25 Europa League, but there are still 18 points to play for this term.

Real Sociedad will bring a five-game unbeaten run into this match, including three wins in La Liga, but they have been held to draws by Almeria and Getafe in their last two games.

Alguacil’s side have actually only won six of their 15 home league matches this term, dropping points in the other nine, including three defeats, and they will be welcoming a Real Madrid side with the best away record in Spain’s top flight during the 2023-24 campaign.

Real Sociedad suffered a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the reverse match at Bernabeu this season, but they recorded a 2-0 victory over the capital side when the two teams locked horns in the corresponding fixture last term, which should hand them confidence ahead of this contest.

Preview: West Ham United take on Liverpool at London Stadium

0
Liverpool players

Reeling from their gut-wrenching derby defeat in midweek, Liverpool will endeavour to reignite their Premier League title hopes when they travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

The Hammers are also seeking to return to winning ways having lost their last two top-flight fixtures in disappointing fashion against Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Following Arsenal’s thumping 5-0 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, the pressure was on Liverpool to respond with a positive result against Merseyside rivals Everton to ensure that they remain within touching distance of the Premier League leaders.

However, JurgenKlopp‘s men were deservedly beaten 2-0 at Goodison Park on Wednesday, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting either side of half time to condemn the Reds to their second league defeat in three matches, denting their title hopes in the process.

While captainVirgil van Dijk has surprisingly questioned the desire of his teammates, Klopp acknowledged after the match that his side were simply “not good enough” and has apologised for their abject performance. The German has also admitted that Liverpool “need a crisis at Man City and Arsenal” to remain in the three-way title race.

With four matches left to play, Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Arsenal, but reigning champions Man City in third crucially have two games in hand, including a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday.

Amid reports that Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is in the frame to succeed Klopp at Anfield in the summer, Liverpool will welcome an encounter with West Ham on Saturday as they have already beaten the Hammers twice this season in all competitions by an aggregate score of 8-2, following up a 3-1 league win in September with a convincing 5-1 victory in the EFL Cup three months later.

Liverpool have only won more Premier League games against Crystal Palace (13) than they have against West Ham (12) under the tutelage of Klopp. However, this is the 11th different campaign in which the Reds have faced the Hammers on three or more occasions and they have never beaten them three times in any of their previous 10.

Like Liverpool, West Ham find themselves down in the dumps following a poor run of form that has derailed their season, winning just one of their last seven Premier League games.

Since coming from behind to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Molineux, the Hammers have suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Fulham and Crystal Palace, the latter put them to the sword 5-2 at Selhurst Park last weekend.

West Ham were three goals down inside the opening 20 minutes and then conceded a fourth in the 31st minute against a clinical Eagles outfit, who added a fifth through Jean-Philippe Mateta just after the hour mark to condemn the Hammers to their 12th league defeat of the season.
