Diddy’s Lawyer explains why rapper had 1,000 bottles of baby oil

The lawyer of American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’Combs’ has explained the rapper’s alleged possession of 1,000 bottles of baby oil, stating that the hip-hop mogul likely buys in bulk.

Diddy was arrested on September 16 in New York and later charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in custody as he awaits trial.

The federal prosecutors claimed that Homeland Security found the extensive supply during a raid on Diddy’s properties as part of an ongoing investigation into sex trafficking.

The baby oil was reportedly discovered alongside other items during a raid connected to allegations that Diddy hosted “freak off” sex parties involving coerced sexual performances, claims that the 54-year-old mogul has denied.

But reacting to the allegation, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo said in an interview with TMZ, “I don’t know where the number ‘1,000’ came from. I can’t imagine it’s thousands,” Agnifilo said,

He added that the quantity may have been exaggerated. “One bottle of baby oil goes a long way,” he noted, questioning the need for such a large supply.

Agnifilo also suggested that Diddy, who owns multiple homes, might simply purchase items in bulk.

“He has a big house. He buys in bulk. I think they have Costcos in every place where he has a home,” he stated, making light of the situation by referencing the bulk-buying habits commonly associated with large retail stores.

Agnifilo insisted that any activities involving Diddy were consensual, adding, “These are consensual adults doing what consensual adults do.”

Adjetey Anang suggests actors can fight ‘galamsey’ better through stories than protests

Adjetey Anang

Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang popularly known as Pusher, has highlighted the impact of storytelling in addressing societal ills like illegal mining, known in Ghanaian parlance as galamsey.

While reacting to a question about the need for creative industry people to add their voices to the campaign against illegal mining, the ‘Things We Do for Love’ actor said they wield so much power that can be channeled through their craft than embark on protests.

“We’ve learnt to do that so well in the stories that we tell and so every now and then if you watch our productions we have adaptations of them, we change certain lines, we inject some of these things for the audience to know that we can have the entertainment and fun but there are serious issues going on there and have to pay attention so we are able to craft that well in our stories that we tell and that’s the best and I think that that’s where we should be heard loudly that hitting the streets,” he said.

He, however, stated that he supports demonstrations against critical issues like galamsey provided they are done within the confines of the law.

On September 17, Democracy Hub organised a three-day demonstration to mount pressure on the government to stop galamsey to avert its devastating impact on water bodies and forest reserves.

Others have also called out celebrities like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy for keeping quiet over the unfortunate incident.

Adjetey Anang’s comment buttresses the notion that creatives can use their various works to influence society in various ways.

US approves $567m in military support for Taiwan

US is Taiwan's most important international backer

United States President Joe Biden has approved $567m in new defence support for Taiwan, the White House has said.

In a brief statement on Sunday, the White House said Biden had delegated the secretary of state “to direct the drawdown of up to $567 million in defense articles and services of the Department of Defense, and military education and training, to provide assistance to Taiwan”.

It provided no further details.

While the US does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, it is Taipei’s most significant international backer and arms supplier. China has repeatedly demanded Washington stop selling weapons to Taipei, which it claims as its territory.

In April, the US approved billions of dollars in military aid for Taiwan as China stepped up military and political pressure on the island. Beijing accuses Washington of meddling in its “internal affairs” with its support for the democratic island.

Taipei has complained of delayed US arms deliveries, including for upgraded F-14 fighter jets. China has not renounced the use of force to bring Taiwan under its control, and has also ramped up rhetoric about “unification” being “inevitable”.

Taiwan rejects China’s claims and says the people of the island should be the ones to choose their future.

Marine Le Pen on trial for alleged EU funds misuse

Marine Le Pen

Marine Le Pen, long-time leader of France’s far-right National Rally and presidential hopeful, goes on trial in Paris on Monday accused of misusing European parliamentary funds.

More than 20 other senior figures in the party are also facing the same charges. They are accused of hiring assistants who worked on party affairs rather than for the European parliament which paid them.

If Le Pen is found guilty, she could face fines and imprisonment – and potentially be declared ineligible to run for office for up to 10 years, hitting her presidential ambitions.

She has denied wrongdoing, and party spokesman Laurent Jacobelli said “we are going to prove that there is no system to embezzle money from the EU”.

“We are going to prove that it is possible to be an assistant to a European parliamentarian and get involved in the life of the RN (National Rally),” the spokesman told French media on Monday.

Upon arriving in court, Le Pen said she was approaching the trial with calmness and insisted she and her associates had violated no political rules.

Le Pen’s father Jean-Marie Le Pen, 96, who founded the National Front, which became the RN, also faces charges, but will not attend the trial because of poor health.

The system of alleged fake jobs was first flagged in 2015 and covered contracts for parliamentary assistants between 2004 and 2016.

Le Pen faces trial as a long-time party leader and former EU lawmaker. Prosecutors allege that one of the people hired as a parliamentary assistant was actually working as a bodyguard for Le Pen and her father.

Prosecutors are seeking to recover more than 3m euros (£2.5m). The RN already paid back 1m euros (£834,000) – which it said was not an admission of guilt.

The trial is expected to last for nearly two months.

Trump escalates personal attacks on Kamala Harris, calls her ‘mentally impaired’

Donald Trump

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has escalated his personal attacks on his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, by repeating an insult that she was “mentally impaired” while also saying she should be “impeached and prosecuted”.

Trump’s rally on Sunday in Erie, Pennsylvania, took on similar themes as an event the day before that he described as a “dark speech”. He claimed in front of a cheering crowd on Sunday that Harris was responsible for an “invasion” at the United States-Mexico border and told them “she should be impeached and prosecuted for her actions”.

“Crooked Joe Biden became mentally impaired,” he added. “Sad. But lying Kamala Harris, honestly, I believe she was born that way. There’s something wrong with Kamala. And I just don’t know what it is, but there is definitely something missing. And you know what, everybody knows it.”

With about a month until the election, Trump is intensifying his use of personal and offensive attacks, even as some Republicans say he would be better off sticking to the issues that concern voters.

Trump has long threatened legal action against his rivals, including President Joe Biden and his 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton.

Trump has many legal problems of his own. He was convicted in May of falsifying business records in a hush money case in New York, with sentencing scheduled for November 26. Two other cases are pending – a federal case for his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, insurrection, and a state case in Georgia for his efforts to overturn his 2020 loss there to Biden.

UK to finish with coal power after 142 years

Coal plant

The UK is about to stop producing any electricity from burning coal – ending its 142-year reliance on the fossil fuel.

The country’s last coal power station, at Ratcliffe-on-Soar, finishes operations on Monday after running since 1967.

This marks a major milestone in the country’s ambitions to reduce its contribution to climate change. Coal is the dirtiest fossil fuel producing the most greenhouse gases when burnt.

Minister for Energy Michael Shanks said: “We owe generations a debt of gratitude as a country.”

The UK was the birthplace of coal power, and from tomorrow it becomes the first major economy to give it up.

“It’s a really remarkable day, because Britain, after all, built her whole strength on coal, that is the industrial revolution,” said Lord Deben – the longest serving environment secretary.

The first coal-fired power station in the world, the Holborn Viaduct power station, was built in 1882 in London by the inventor Thomas Edison – bringing light to the streets of the capital.

From that point through the first half of the twentieth century, coal provided pretty much all of the UK’s electricity, powering homes and businesses.

In the early 1990s, coal began to be forced out of the electricity mix by gas, but coal still remained a crucial component of the UK grid for the next two decades.

In 2012, it still generated 39% of the UK’s power.

Baffuor Owusu Bediako, Domeabrahene

Baffuor Owusu Bediako, the Paramount Chief of Domeabra in the Asante Akyim North District of the Ashanti region has commended the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his pristine leadership.

The chief noted that his leadership style has helped immensely to sustain peace in the chieftaincy institution in the region.

According to him, the Asantehene’s leadership role in resolving chieftaincy disputes to foster peaceful coexistence in the region and beyond deserve emulation by other traditional authorities and political leaders.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

Baffuor Bediako made the commendation when he presided over a Peace Symposium organised by the Ashanti Regional Peace Council at Wesley College of Education to strengthen the ideals of peace to commemorate this year’s International Day of Peace under the theme: “Cultivating a Culture of Peace.”

He appealed to political party functionaries to be mindful of their activities, as we gradually approach the 2024 December 7 general elections.

He said politicians should not forget that their members and constituents look up to them, hence any action that incites violence and chaotic behaviour should not be condoned.

The chief noted that the use of abusive language by politicians is becoming a norm, especially during campaigns, and warned that slanderous messages were not good, except to ruin the reputations of people for power.

He cautioned that political propaganda, indecent speeches and ethnic and religious divisive languages could trigger violent conflicts which would disrupt the peace and stability prevailing in the country.

He stressed the need to be cautious in expressing grievances and displeasures when issues of national interest confront us.

He disclosed that our actions and omissions today will largely determine the conditions we would find ourselves in during and after the elections and that, demonstration should be peacefully and lawfully carried out to prevent any acts of violence.

The Domeabra chief also entreated Ghanaians to express their opinions and differences through the use of dialogue instead of violence.

He reminded the public to realise that Ghana can no longer afford leaders who come to plunder the nation and bring unnecessary hardship on the people, adding that the Gospel of Peace, truth, justice, reconciliation, unity, respect and the fear of the Lord are the bedrock of a genuinely true and patriotic election.

The Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change, Mr John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has emphasised the need for governments to integrate the chieftaincy institution in the local government system.

He said that involving chiefs and queen mothers in local governance is not out of place, since politics and chieftaincy are the same and complement each other.

Prof Naana Opoku Agyemang exchanging pleasantries with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,the Asantehene

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has urged all political activists to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. He noted that once the outcome of the elections is accepted by all contestants, it helps to build public trust in the system.

The Asantehene gave the advice when Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate called on him at the Manhyia Palace to officially introduce herself to him as the running mate of the NDC.

According to the Asantehene, Ghanaians only expect to vote for a peaceful and development oriented political party, and for that matter urged the running mate and the NDC to sell their message in such a way as to attract the majority of Ghanaians, especially the floating voters, to buy into their ideas and policies.

He advised her to justify her selection by the former President to partner him on the Presidential ticket and urged her to use her vast experience in public service, especially as the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), to complement the flagbearer and to deliver on their mandate to improve the socio-economic development of the country, when the Ghanaian electorate give them the mandate.

Otumfuo reminded her of her capability and sense of intelligence and humility, and urged her to maintain these qualities.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang also commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu for the good counsel and assured him of a decent campaign devoid of insults, to ensure peace and harmony.

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Kumasi Mayor and Regional Minister and currently the first vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assured Otumfuo that the priority of the NDC was to develop the Ashanti region and assured that the region would get its fair share of the national cake when voted into power.

He disclosed that efforts by the previous NDC administration to develop the Ashanti region in terms of development is unprecedented and assured that the NDC would continue with a huge infrastructural development to improve the standard of living of the residents in the region.

He stressed that the NDC, as a political party, would not do anything that could undermine the integrity and authority of Otumfuo and Asanteman, assuring that the NDC would partner him to ensure the total development of the region.
