Oyoko market receives facelift

Traders at the Oyoko market in the New Juaben North municipality have hailed the timely intervention of the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the New Juaben North, Mr. Samuel Adongo, for giving a facelift to the market.

According to the traders, the market, which was built over 40 years ago, has not seen any major renovation and has, therefore, contributed to low patronage as well as deepened their economic and social woes.

Auntie Ama Konadu, one of the traders, expressed gratitude for and on behalf of her colleagues for the kind gesture of the NDC PC, publicly known as Sammy Adongo, for coming to their aid.

She disclosed that the market has no light, with poor structures, a situation that has negatively affected patronage since it becomes difficult for usage of the market when it rains and in the evening.

The traders are of the view that the facelift would go a long way to enhance patronage of the market and improve the local economy.

The ongoing renovation of the Oyoko market

Speaking to the media shortly after inspection of ongoing works at the market, Mr. Adongo hinted that developmental challenges have delayed the growth and progress of the constituency, hence identifying the facelift to the market as a means to improve the socio-economic position of the constituents.

Mr. Samuel Adongo said that the Oyoko market, which has played a key role in the New Juaben North Municipality economy, has been in a deplorable state for the past years.

However, the current situation of the market has led to customers and traders deserting the market to move to other areas in the municipality.

Touching on the unemployment rate in the municipality, Mr. Samuel Adongo affirmed that many businessmen and women are currently jobless, due to the ineffectiveness of the market, hence the rehabilitation of the market to reduce the higher unemployment rate in the area.

Sammy Adongo has injected GH¢500,000 as the estimated cost for the renovation of the market, in the quest to create employment opportunities for the people in New Juaben North for economic growth and social stability in the area.

Some traders who spoke to the media during the inspection of the market expressed grave concern over the inability of the New Juaben North Municipality Assembly to give facelift to the market.

The NDC New Juaben North PC has also provided a mechanised Borehole for the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Senior High School (SHS) at Effiduase, to contribute to the quality of teaching and learning.

Mr. Samuel Adongo has presented three wheelchairs to the Gyamfikrom CHIP compound, as well as plans to also give a facelift to the Gyamfikrom CHIP compound, to improve on the quality of healthcare delivery at the local level.

Sammy Adongo said that measures are being put in place to leverage economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction in the area, through constituents’ empowerment and collaborating with investors to establish firms in the constituency.

Despite the fact that New Juaben North Constituency is the stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC PC called on the constituents to change their pattern of voting in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls.
