Opoku Ware Senior High School (OWASS) has observed its 73rd Anniversary Prize Giving Day and Homecoming, hosted by AY 25 group of the school.

The AY Group has called on old Students and alumni as role models to extend their engagement beyond physical infrastructure to mentorship and character formation.
Mr Kenneth Adjei Gilbert, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources and an Old Boy, who was the Guest Speaker for the occasion, commended the Akatakyie (Old Boys) fraternity for championing mentorship, sports and debating programmes during the Homecoming, as the initiatives builds character, confidence and community.
He encouraged the leadership of Akatakyie Global to deepen collaboration with the school’s authorities to support extracurricular activities through student clubs and societies, as their collective involvement in that regard can have a lasting generational impact.
According to the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources this year’s celebration themed: “Developing 21st Century Talent: Integrating Digital and Social Skills” is timely, forward-looking and compelling.

He noted that the world, as we once knew it, has undergone a dramatic transformation from banking to education, agriculture to public governance, with the pervasive force of technology is redefining how we learn, work and live.
He disclosed that while digital literacy was essential, “we must not neglect the foundational social skills often referred to as ‘social skills’ that underpin human interaction, empathy and ethical leadership.”
He said Skills such as effective communication, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, team work, self-discipline and integrity are indispensable for professional success and for cultivating responsible citizenship.
The Minister indicated that Adolescents, in particular, require deliberate mentoring, support and nurturing to internalise those values.
Mr Kenneth Adjei Gilbert lauded the Global President of the Akatakyie fraternity and his committed executive team for their exemplary leadership and tireless mobilisation efforts and strategic intervention to support their alma mater.
Okatakyie Professor Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi (AY171), as Chairman for the occasion, disclosed that the school had produced leaders from all fields of endeavour including professional, social, talents and critical skills.
