Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has urged all political activists to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. He noted that once the outcome of the elections is accepted by all contestants, it helps to build public trust in the system.
The Asantehene gave the advice when Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate called on him at the Manhyia Palace to officially introduce herself to him as the running mate of the NDC.
According to the Asantehene, Ghanaians only expect to vote for a peaceful and development oriented political party, and for that matter urged the running mate and the NDC to sell their message in such a way as to attract the majority of Ghanaians, especially the floating voters, to buy into their ideas and policies.
He advised her to justify her selection by the former President to partner him on the Presidential ticket and urged her to use her vast experience in public service, especially as the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), to complement the flagbearer and to deliver on their mandate to improve the socio-economic development of the country, when the Ghanaian electorate give them the mandate.
Otumfuo reminded her of her capability and sense of intelligence and humility, and urged her to maintain these qualities.
Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang also commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu for the good counsel and assured him of a decent campaign devoid of insults, to ensure peace and harmony.
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Kumasi Mayor and Regional Minister and currently the first vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assured Otumfuo that the priority of the NDC was to develop the Ashanti region and assured that the region would get its fair share of the national cake when voted into power.
He disclosed that efforts by the previous NDC administration to develop the Ashanti region in terms of development is unprecedented and assured that the NDC would continue with a huge infrastructural development to improve the standard of living of the residents in the region.
He stressed that the NDC, as a political party, would not do anything that could undermine the integrity and authority of Otumfuo and Asanteman, assuring that the NDC would partner him to ensure the total development of the region.
