The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, last Friday, toured the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to assess the progress of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, which he initiated on November 10, 2023 to improve the hospital’s infrastructure and healthcare services.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu was accompanied on his inspection tour of the renovation works by Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, Hiahene, who also doubles as the Board chairman of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation and the new Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene and Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of KATH.
Under the project, the 70-year-old main blocks at KATH, popularly referred to as “Blocks A, B, C and D”, are expected to be renovated at US$10 million through public fund raising to correct wear and tear over the years, structural defects, including damaged ceilings, deteriorated tiling and poor ward conditions at the facility, originally built with a 500-bed capacity.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the Heal Komfo Anokye project, after touring Phase One, which is now 95% complete.
The first phase, comprising two floors of Block A, has been fully renovated and furnished, with only the installation of an oxygen bed head remaining, before it becomes fully operational.
Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, Samuel Adu-Boakye, disclosed that patients currently housed in the makeshift ward will soon be relocated to the completed section to allow for the commencement of Phase Two.
He assured that the next phase would progress swiftly, as most of the required materials are already available.
Chairman Adu Boakye commended contributors to the project and further appealed for continued financial support to ensure its successful completion.
He reiterated Otumfuo’s call on Corporate Ghana, Members of Parliament, churches, commercial entities, financial institutions, groups, Ghanaians, households, residents and individuals to take up the challenge and contribute generously towards the completion of the Project, because Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital serves the health needs of all Ghanaians.
Dr. Justice Amoh, Chief Executive Officer of Justmoh Constructions is renovating one of the four blocks from his own resources, while Mr. Isaac Owusu of Isaac Stationary and Group of Companies would renovate one floor of any of the blocks.
A Kumasi based businessman, J.K. Agyeman, has offered a whole Secretariat for the Project Team, which is duly furnished by Andy Sarp Furniture Company, while Fidelity Bank Ghana sponsored the launching ceremony in November 2023.
Popular Ghanaian Actors Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, Yaw Dabo, Papa Kumasi and Kumawood star, Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu Badu, were among those who joined the Asantehene on the inspection tour last Friday.
