Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene with a contingent of paramount chiefs and Divisional chiefs from all regions of Ghana who owe allegiance to the Golden Stool yesterday arrived in the City of Memphis, Tennessee in the United States to participate in this year’s May International Festival.
His visit would help showcase Ghana’s culture and traditions and promote business investments opportunities in Ghana as well as mark the second royal participation in the 44-year-old Festival, since the Maori Queen at the Salute to New Zealand in 1991.
This year’s month-long May International Festival is being held in honour of Ghana and it is expected to break down barriers, promote greater understanding and strengthen the ties between Ghana and the citizens of Memphis and the Mid-South of the United States.
A statement issued by Mr Kofi Badu, the Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace said Otumfuo will participate in a five-day programme culminating in a traditional durbar on Memphis’ historic Beale Street on May 8,2022.
According to Chief of Staff, Kofi Badu, the Asantehene would meet with high level city and government officials and business leaders towards promoting business and investment opportunities in the two countries.
The City of Memphis would also honour Opemsuo Osei Tutu and Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States with a Black Star Tie Galaat the Renaissance Convention Centre Grand Ballroom on May 6,2022 to mark his (Otumfuo) 72nd birthday.
The statement also disclosed that the Asantehene will visit places including the National Civil Rights Museum, the STAX Museum of American Soul Music and Graceland, the home of the Memphis legend,Elvis Presley as well as the headquarters of the Federal Express(FedEx) and Medtonic, the world’s manufacturers of medical robotics.
Bishop Al Green at the head of celebrated musicians and religious leaders are also slated to host Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s final engagement with a church service at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, the statement indicated.
