Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has commended the majority Leader, Dr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for his leadership role in Parliament and his contribution to good governance, development and growth of democracy in the country.
The Majority Leader, in his capacity as the Sompahene of Bremang and his wife, Nana Kesewaa Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Sompahemaa had joined the Asantehene to observe the last Akwasidae at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.
He expressed his appreciation to Otumfuo for endorsing his nomination and installation and the honour bestowed on him with the Sompahene title.
The call on Otumfuo was part of activities to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the enstooolment of the couple in 2017.
Otumfuo said he had observed with admiration the Majority Leader over the years and is satisfied with his performance as Majority Leader, Member of Parliament of Suame, and Sompahene of Bremang.
The Ashanti King urged the Sompahene and his wife to continue to serve in humility which has been his hallmark in public service in general adding that the title of Sompahene goes with endless service to people.
Nana Kotei Kutin Sraman II, the Bremanghene at the head of leaders of various communities, including Kwapra, Tarkwa, Suame and Anomangye, constituting the Suame Constituency on November 26, 2017 enstooled Dr. Oseiyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Mrs. Irene Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Sompahene and Sompahemaa.
It was in recognition of the Majority Leader’s role in giving practical meaning to the belief in unity in diversity towards progress and national development.
A host of Parliamentarians, politicians, as well as members of the Sompahemaa Foundation were at the Manhyia Palace to grace the august occasion and show solidarity with their leader in Parliament.
Also in the company of the Sompahene and Sompahemaa, were Odeefuo Nana Oteng Korankyi II, the chief of Brekusu, near Aburi, in the Eastern region; Nana Kotei Kutin Sraman II, Bremanghene and chiefs of Tarkwa, Suame and Anomangye.
Born Lawrence Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the 65-year-old Suame law maker comes from Bronkong in the Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region and is married with five children.
He holds BSc (Planning) KNUST, 1982. He is a Development Planner/Architect/Quantity Surveyor.
Dr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu contested the 1996 parliamentary election in the then Old Tafo Suame Constituency and won. He has since represented his people in Parliament.
