Veteran Gospel Artiste, Piesie Esther who was a great contender for the Artiste of the year in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has replied critics who questioned how she could win the category with a single song.
In her response, Piesie Esther said she is not the only one who has been nominated in the ‘Artiste of the year’ category with a single song and not an album. “I am told Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Joe Mettle have all been nominated in that category before with just a single so I don’t understand why they are asking me why I thought of winning with a single.”
The ‘W’aye me yie’ crooner won ‘Gospel Artiste of the year’ and ‘Gospel Song of the year’ at the 24th edition of the VGMA. According to her, she was disappointed in winning just two awards out of the seven nominations.
Categories she mentioned that she wishes she would have won were ‘Video of the year’ and ‘Songwriter of the year.’ Explaining on TV3 New Day, she said she is not much disturbed that the ‘Songwriter of the year’ award went to Perez Music, a fellow Gospel Musician but jovially added that, she will go for her ‘Video of the year’ award from her arch contender, Black Sherif.
She also revealed that she had no regrets about not winning the Artiste of the year award, as she was still happy to be recognized in other categories.
“I was not disappointed at all for not winning the Artist of the Year,” she said.
The VGMA Artiste of the Year award was won by Black Sherif, beating competition from top musicians like Sarkodie, Piesie Esther, Camidoh, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Kidi and Joe Mettle.
