A violent clash between two rival factions in Winneba, in the Central Region, has left one person dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred at Sankor, within the Efutu Constituency of the Minority Leader in Parliament, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
The cause of the confrontation remains unclear. However, videos circulating on social media show members of the rival groups brandishing machetes during the clash, which degenerated into violence.
Confirming the incident, the Winneba Divisional Police Commander, ACP Ibrahim Opoku, told journalists that several individuals sustained injuries and were receiving medical attention.
He disclosed that the police, after reviewing video footage of the incident, have arrested a number of suspects in connection with the violence.
Information gathered by this paper indicates that the deceased, identified only as Excoba, succumbed to injuries sustained during the confrontation.
ACP Opoku assured residents that calm has since been restored to the area, following the deployment of additional security personnel. He said police patrols have been intensified to prevent further disturbances.
He added that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the clash and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
