Residents of Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti region witnessed a robbery scene over the weekend, when armed robbers attacked a gold buying outlet called Richberk Gold Enterprise, killing one person.
Speaking to an eyewitness on condition of anonymity, he explained that on Friday, August 23, 2024 at around 19:00 hrs GMT, some young men were playing cards in front of the gold buying outlet when an armed man appeared and asked them to lie down on the floor, which they obliged.
He continued that the attacker shot through the head of one Kwame, aka Zazate, through a sliding glass door, when he (the deceased) was trying to escape from the scene of the attack.
The eyewitness told The Chronicle that, whilst one of the armed robbers had besieged the gold-selling outlet, two of his colleagues had taken over the Beposo stretch.
When the police arrived, they cordoned off the area and carried the body of the deceased to the hospital.
Speaking to the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Joseph Frimpong Bonsu, he confirmed the armed attack to The Chronicle, adding that one suspect had been arrested to assist the police in their investigation.
Responding to a question, Frimpong Bonsu stated that calm has been restored in Mankranso and its environs.
