The Ashanti Regional Police has arrested one person for the planned robbery of a businessman in Buokrom Estate. Three other persons who sustained injuries during the operation have been pronounced dead.
In a statement signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs, the Regional Police Anti-robbery Taskforce personnel mounted a search and screening operation of all vehicles entering the estate, when it received intelligence on the planned attack on the business man.
As a result the police mounted a check on all vehicles entering the Estate.
ACP Ofori said that four suspects who were in a car that had been stopped attempted to fire at the police and the personnel also returned fire resulting in the injury and subsequent death of the three at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The Director-General indicated that the police retrieved a pump-action gun, a revolver pistol, a locally manufactured pistol and a dagger.
There were two black hoods, two pairs of scissors and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis also in the car, the Director-General said.
ACP Ofori commended the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and his team for their relentless effort in fighting robbery and other violent crimes in the region and the public for assisting them in intelligence gathering.
