OmniBSIC Bank, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)has awarded full scholarship to Harriet Ntiako, a medical student at the University of Ghana.
The gesture followed a publication by The Chronicle and subsequent promotion by Accra based radio station, Citi FM,on their well patronised morning show.
The scholarship would cover tuition, accommodation, monthly stipends and incidental expenses amounting to GH¢164, 496.00.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the beneficiary, Harriet Ntiako, dated February 15, 2023 and signed by Christian Atisu Junior, Acting Head Corporate Communication and Daniel Asiedu, Managing Director.
The purpose of the letter was to inform Ms. Harriet Ntiako that the kind gesture was to support her financially through her six-year programme at the Medicine and Surgery College of the University of Ghana.
The financial support was necessitated by the Bank’s “firm belief that education is geared towards alleviating poverty and building sustainable workforce. This happens to be just one of the several initiatives implemented by the bank to realise this objective.”
Harriet Ntiako is a 19-year-old former student of Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast, who passed the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with flying colours and also successfully gained admission to the University of Ghana Medical School.
Harriet’s joy to achieve this dream was, however, nearly hampered by the inability of her parents – a lotto Receiver father and second hand clothes dealer mother – to foot her medical school bills.
OmniBSIC Bank has shown leadership as a corporate institution and is willing to use education as a tool to end poverty and help build the human resource of the nation.
