Omicron: Nigeria must place travel ban on UK too –Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister on Monday tasked the Nigerian Government to place a travel ban on citizens of the United Kingdom, UK.

Fani-Kayode made the call while condemning the restriction of travel ban placed on Nigerians by the UK.

He described the action of the UK government as wicked, unacceptable, self-serving, and racist.

In a tweet, the All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain wrote: “To say the travel ban imposed on Nigerians by the UK is “travel apartheid” is putting it mildly.

“It is worse than that: it is racist, discriminatory, wicked, unacceptable, self-serving, vile, sinister, selective, vicious, provocative & unacceptable. We should reciprocate the gesture.”

The UK announced that it found 21 cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant which were linked to Nigeria.

It further confirmed that from Monday, all flights emanating from Nigeria would be restricted. All pending visa applications in Nigeria have also been suspended, due to the ban on flights from Nigeria due to the Omicron variant.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed in a reaction had urged the UK government to review and rescind the decision.
