Courage Glover, an Okada rider from Ashaiman, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty of conspiracy and robbery by the Circuit Court in Accra. The case was presided over by His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah.
Courage Glover was convicted on two counts: conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, both contrary to Sections 23 and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 29/60. His accomplice, identified only as Mohammed, remains at large.
According to Chief Inspector Belinda Asante, on April 6, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. Courage Glover and Mohammed, riding a motorbike, approached four men – Richard Amponsah, a phone repairer; Farouk Iddi, a mobile money vendor; Abubakar Sadiq, also a mobile money vendor and Francis Osei Bonsu, a barber – outside the Mawarko Restaurant at Klagon, near the Ashaiman Underbridge.
The victims had gathered to purchase food and were waiting for a Bolt ride when the attackers struck.
Glover, armed with a locally manufactured pistol, threatened the group and robbed them of several items, including an iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max, three Nokia phones, a Samsung A03 and GH¢200 in cash.
In a brave act, complainant Farouk Iddi resisted the attackers by grabbing Courage Glover and struggling with him, during which the pistol was fired.
The bullet brushed Iddi’s left thigh, but his resistance alerted passersby who helped overpower the accused. Mohammed, however, escaped with the motorbike.
Police later recovered five mobile phones, the pistol and 9mm ammunition from Courage Glover. During interrogation, he admitted to the crime in his caution statement.
The judge, citing the gravity of the offense and the use of a firearm, handed Glover a custodial sentence of 15 years. The authorities continue to search for Mohammed.
The case has raised fresh concerns about motorcycle-assisted robberies in the Greater Accra Region and the need for tighter surveillance in urban hotspots.
