A Security Analyst, Nana Kweku Ofori Atta, says the profound victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 2024 elections means that Ghanaians have desired a paradigm shift that will reset the country.
In his views, President Mahama’s uncompromising 2024 electioneering campaign message that he will reset the country was arguably one of the reasons behind the overwhelming endorsement he received at the polls.
Nana Ofori Atta has, therefore, called on Mr John Dramani Mahama not to renege on his promise to fully reset the country to the path of transformation based on which, Ofori Atta claimed, many Ghanaians profoundly voted for him and his party.
In an interview with The Chronicle, the security analyst argued that failure of the president to reset the country as he promised the masses, could lead to a massive disappointment that could affect his party’s fortunes in the future.
According to him, the president’s strong commitment to resetting the country must be systematically seen to be carried out through a thorough scan that could bring the Ghanaian people the expected results they voted for.
He said “His Excellency the president must do a lot of scanning to detect all hidden virus in the system before formatting the nation’s economic hard disc, because the existing system cannot carry us forward”.
He further reiterated that the much awaited reset from the new president must not just be among the political class, but must take place in every sector of the country, so that its impact could be felt nationwide.
“I keep saying that we cannot maintain the status quo, but expect new things do be done and that’s why I fully support Mr President’s agenda to reset the country and in fact, this must take place in all facets of our lives as a people.
“The ordinary Ghanaian needs attitudinal change but mind you, someone at the top must lead the way and show leadership for the rest of us all to follow in our quest to reset because you cannot reset the system while the people will maintain their old attitudes,” he added.
JDM’s inaugural speech on reset
Delivering his inaugural speech after a successful swearing in, President John Dramani Mahama reiterated his commitment to resetting the country and called on Ghanaians to embrace his vision to build the Ghana all Ghanaians aspire to have.
He said, “We need a reset with the faith we have in our leaders. We need a reset with the faith we have in our institutions. We need to reset our faith in Ghana – and by that, I mean in all of us because we are Ghana”.
President Mahama added, “What can you do to help build that better Ghana? What behaviours, attitudes, and mindsets can you reset?
“We need a reset, and we have faith in Ghana’s ability to overcome, excel, and be so successful with this reset that it would be difficult to imagine a time when that was not the norm”.
Reacting to this, Nana Ofori Atta said “The president couldn’t have said it any better and I think that his speech reflects and resonates with his objective to reset the country and I am all for it”.
Appointments
On appointment of individuals to key government institutions and ministeries, Nana Ofori Atta cautioned that Mr Mahama must only appoint individuals who believe in his vision and be committed to building a better Ghana for all.
“I will be extremely sad and disappointed to see the president appoint people whose conscience will not be to the state but will be seen engaging in one corrupt deal or the other.
“We don’t need people whose mindsets are like those we just kicked out of power, but those who will serve with dignity and integrity to justify the trust Ghanaians have reposed in Mr Mahama’s government”, he stated.
